With a little reaserch I saw many V6 ignitions (whatever brands) are getting spark from the GM 3800 MSD coils.

here's one : http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3057180

I would like to try this out , anyone would know how to hook this up for our application? From this forum , they are talking about putting a resistor to prevent the ECU to blow...Would that apply to us?

Discuss.

Oh and all the naysayers that will post here , go get me a sammwich.

I'd say get the wiring diagrams for the SHO and the car the donor coil came from...that'd be a start.

All coils work on B+ and B-.... They'll work less the ICM that they mount to. You would use the same diagram as Powersurge's.

(these coils grounds through the bolthole)

Wiring will not really be an issue, the tricky part is going to be finding a spark plug wire that fits the SHO valve covers and the GM coils.

Na, that would not be hard at all, just pull the coil end off and install the GM end..

Yea I know , Im just torn between COPs and something that has more spark if there's such a thing possible on our cars. Im planning on getting some 12,5:1 pistons this winter and I wanted a good spark to ignite this.

Im also looking at MSDs pre '05 4.6 and 4.6 post 05' COPs , but the more I read , it seams that MSD is not what it used to be.

It aint. I had an MSD DIS 4 on my car for a total of 100 miles before it burnt up.... To be honest, no ignition system is going to give you more spark or performance. It's all looks from the factory setup.

Hey Phoenix,

I was just looking at those the other day. 44Kv I believe. Before you buy anything we need to see what a stock coil puts out. Zak claims 44Kv if his memory serves him right which would mean wasted money for the MSD unit.

Does anybody know what the stock coil puts out?

There has been an amazing surge in Coil-related threads lately. Craziness!

I don't see why it wouldn't work, but...why? if it's just to have something different, then cool beenz, go for it! But if you're expecting some sort of performance boost, I think you're kinda just ******* on the floor... pardon my rather crude reference.

I just don't want you to be disappointed. Perhaps you could put a big chrome heat sink on the DIS? That'd be different. ****, you might put something like this on it. That'd be pretty sweet!

If you're going for spark strength, COP, or the LSx pseudo COP setup, is probably the best.

and now you just itching to change something so,its time to come to the dark side....

hahha , thats probably true , but to tell the truth im itching to grab these pistons alot more then that spark thing....and once I get the high comp pistons , I wont be able to join the dark side. Sorry luke Im not your father :laugh_ti:

Funny you say that , cause Im considering it , Josh said to me at the convention that it was worth every penny.

I will keep that in mind , Is it rust-less?
