Ok, I have a 1990 SHO. It was my first car, and it's a good car. Needless to say it doesn't look as great as most of my friends cars, but it will definitely out run them! But, its not fast enough yet. Im looking for anything to add on to my engine. Throttle body, cold air, etc. I DONT CARE!! I just want more (easy) power out of it. Where is the best place to look for stuff for it?? I've looked all over the internet but I can't seem to turn up any answers. PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you!!!

Try SHOSource www.shosource.com and SHO Nut performance www.shonutperformance.com . Those 2 places would be some good places to start for bolt ons. Then if you want to do some other mods or read about some other faq's about our beloved SHO, go here www.shotimes.com

Seems like from what I have understood, some good quick hp upgrades would be a high flow y-pipe from SHO Source, a UDP for the crank, and I think the giggle gas would be a quick producer of hp.

Speaking from experience, but a maintained SHO is a happy SHO. With the maintenance done, those bolt ons will work that much better. :) :thumb:

SHOSource.com is one place to look. There are a few vendors out there that you could get parts from.

Take a look at the ShoForum.com homepage. Near the bottom are a list of Forum sponsors that have aftermarket parts.

The first thing you should do is make sure that the maintence is up to date.

After that, an aftermarket Y-Pipe is going to give you the best bang for the buck. Don't waste your money on a cold air intake or throttle body. You will almost no gains from these if any. I would say go with the y-pipe and then nitrous would be the best bang for the buck mod you could do.

I'm sure others will chime in as well.

Looks like Boat beat me to it.....

Other than a high-flow y-pipe, there isn't much "easy" power to be had.

You fellas are too fast for me.

Almost forgot - UPGRADE YOUR BRAKES!!!!!!! At least get the 96+ upgrade, it's worth it.

Agreed. The Y-Pipe is the best mod for the money. Make sure you spend your money on getting the maintenance done first. One more thing to keep in mind, the SHO engine outputs 73hp per liter stock. What makes the SHO perform well is that the engine has a very wide torque band ~2200 rpm to 6000 rpm.

My grandpa bought this car off the show room floor in 1990 and it has had regular maintenance since then. The engine has 140K on it, but It still drives perfectly. The only thing physically wrong with it is the clear coat is peeling off, and the grill is cracked from a fender-bender...oops...New clutch and pressure plate, new radiator, new solenoid as off yesterday, and a custom sound system worth more than the car its self. Ha. I love it, Id just like some more pull out of it. Thank you for the help guys!

Has a new clutch. Well, all you need is a Zex dry kit. You get more power for the money. Show me $500 of bolt ons that trim at least .8 off the quarter mile.

Ha. Id love to put $500 down on that. I just don't have it right now.

And I also got new Rod bearings and tie rod ends when I got the car. Good call though. thank you

Well, you probably don't have enough to get a y-pipe then. Anything else is pointless if you're scrapping up money and trying to milk out power from the engine. The y-pipe & nitrous is what you need.

Other than that, good tires that can grab the road will help you accelerate and brake much better. The 96+ brake upgrade is overrated for a stock SHO... a fresh brake fluid flush of Valvoline synthetic, new performance pads, and good tires will be an upgrade in itself for the stock brake system, as well as stainless steel brake lines.

Yeah, I probably don't have enough right now cause I just got done paying for school. But I'll get it eventually. And i'm seriously considering running NOS and getting a Y-Pipe. Pipe first tho. Tires and breaks are good. I keep everything in shape. It just needs a serious paint job and some slight body work. Thats all.

Yeah, I agree with Nova SS, do your rod-bearings. I am getting ready to do mine if they ever get here. :)

At least someone agrees. Performance friction carbon metallic pads are good enough for me with the stock brakes. I think they are more than adequate, especially considering I drove my first sho the whole time I owned it with air in the abs system and unsafe brakes. I'm very lucky i'm still alive.

Yeah, well my brakes are screwed regardless because my traction control is out and they don't make that computer anymore. And to fix it would cost at least double what the car is worth. It stops fine. Its not like its a race car or is driven like one.....all the time anyway XD

Traction control, hmmm? That must've been one of those "special" options.

I mean Anti-Lock breaks. My bad. Ha. Either way, its not so much that i care its out, I just hate the constant yellow light thats on because of it. Haha

Performance parts for upping HP for the SHO are costly and do little. If the car runs very well already, and you can't come up with $500, I wouldn't spend cash on performance parts for an old car; save it for the next repair items that come up; it is 20 yrs. old, and things will continue to wear out and need replacement.
