yet just another problem yet again,

I picked up a fuel filter today and am going to change it tonight so thanks to all who chipped in with the info, but now when i start the car there is a rattle from under the car ( which I thing is the heat shield on the exhaust) and that isnt so bad because it is only at idle. But what really bugs me is the fact that once I start to accelerate not only does the car not have alot of power but in first gear it starts to make a popping noise like mabey something is exploding in the cats. Something tells me that this isnt good, so what should I do to remidy this issue.

My mechanic said when I got my valve cover gaskets replaced that some time in the future that it wouldnt be a bad i dea to change my plug wires and he used some silicone on them for a better fit, could this have something to with my problem maybe one of the plugs isnt sparking and excess fuel is getting into the exhaust and exploding in there instead of in the cylendar like it should.

Thanks,
Kyle

Popping in the exhaust is often due to exhaust leaks that let in fresh air when the throttle gets closed, which then burns/explodes the unburned fuel in the exhaust system.

He also has a huge loss of power.

If it only pops through the exhaust then you probably have a spark related issue. If it is popping through the intake and exhaust, check your timing.

Could be a bad coil, old wires, or bad plugs. Check those things first before you worry about timing.
I had the same issue before and it was just a corroded wire and water in my gas. Water will give you the "popping", and bad spark will obviously create a loss of power. In fact those two things put together look exactly like a timing problem.
