So I pulled my axle seals in prep for the new halfshafts and I noticed that there is scoring on the drivers side. Coincidently this is the side that was leaking. This may or may not be why it was leaking. It looks like it was scored when someone popped it out sometime in the past. I don't think I did, read SHO Pheonix site and was pretty carefull. SO there is one gouge about 3/4ths the length it where the seal sits. Would it help to rub RTV on the area before I put the seal back in?

With your finger, spread a thin layer of permatex gasket maker (not RTV) on both the ****** and the outside edge of the seal. Don't goop it in there, just a see-through layer to fill the gouges.

Well I tried it today using a thin coat of RTV. I can get rid of the RTV because I jacked the seal up and will have to do it again. On the passenger side, I did not use any type of gasket stuff, just the seal. Is that OK?

Anaerobic sealant is the preferred sealant for the axle seal ******.

I'd leave it as is if it's not leaking.
