For anyone that has repainted a "YF" Titanium SHO

This thread is aimed mostly for the Gen1 crowd as I've just aquired a completely rust-free (nearly impossible task in Detroit) "diamond in the rough" 1990 Titanium SHO.

I want to repaint it with the correct color. I've already researched the PPG paint code for the Ford door tag code "YF" and I came up with PPG's 4121 color code (M6330A?).

If you have pictures of your car (before and after would be great) after having it repainted the original Titanium "YF" color, I would LOVE to see them.

Remember that Titanium is not silver.
It has a pewter and or bronze tint to it.

I'm quite familiar with the original Titanium. I know it has a pewter look to it. If that second car I pictured is original, then the lighting is making it look too gold. Monitors make it tough, but the point of this thread is to eventually see a couple of different SHOs that have been repainted...and to note the brand and color code of the paint. I'd love to see one repainted with ppg4121 in person and a picture is never the same...especially on a computer screen, but I'll probably just end up getting a pint and spraying the hood to see the color.

Must just have been the monitor I had at the time. Now, it looks correct (new laptop).


Reviving an old thread in a relevent manner. Here's a couple of fender pics flanking a pic of the original, peeling paint. Both pics were taken with the same camera...but with very differnt lighting. This fender was painted with PPG 4121 and cleared last week.

I'd like to get this fender and the old front bumper cover together under the same lighting so we can really see if it matches.

PPG JB Basecoat (Shopline or Omni depending on your locale).

I am so far pleased with the PPG JAU (acrylic urethane) single stage. My local store sells the Shopline brand. Since that Lt. Titanium is a base/clear, I know the costs are even more. We'd talked about this earlier. I couldn't imagine what Deltron would have cost to paint that car.

Can't wait to see it done though!

Yeah, Deltron is expensive stuff. It's probably better paint than came on our cars originally.

Even if I had ponied up the extra $300 for a gallon of deltron base, I would not have payed the premium for the deltron clearcoat. There's no need. Shopline clear is pretty decent stuff from what I've read.

Lot's of well respected restorers have their favorite clearcoats...usually stuff that costs half as much but gives the same or beter result...or has more UV protection than the stuff that's recommended...or they get a commission...lol...


I was able to get the guy at the paint store to tell me that PPG Shopline has the lowest profit margins in the industry...so I feel like I got good value. haha

Off subject a bit, but I'm honored to have my old 89 starting off the thread (complete with Thule bike rack and loaded with boxes while moving)!!! Super! I'm glad to see your project coming along so well!

FYI here is my repainted 89. I do not know what brand, etc. But it has definately been repainted.





Now to fix the small spots of rust and have it painted again.
