I picked up an extra set of rear head rests from somebody local that was parting out his cars. They slipped right in between the seat back and they're in there good. They still tilt too.

I wonder why they didn't come from the factory like that, it makes the seat so much more comfortable to have something to rest your head on...

And will they become a projectile in an accident?

In the end, it was a cost savings.

My girlfriend and friends sit in the back. The fact that they are now more comfortable when they ride back there makes me happy, and the fact that there's less chance of severe neck injury now also makes me happy, and I also think it looks good too.

There's no way they'll come out in an accident. The metal rods are about 12" long and they are stuck in there very well. To get them in I had to compress the headrest up against the rear glass and then slide them down and in, it's nearly impossible for them to come out.

It looks good. I've thought of doing this myself, but like the others was very concerned about them being dislodged during an accident.

looks good! :thumb:
I wouldn't worry about them being dislodged in an accident, but you could zip-tie or restrain the ends in the trunk correct?

I just did the same upgrade to my 91' and they really don't block much of your rear view. When you first put them in they seam to stand out, but after some time they blend into the backgroun. They do help out any rear passengers who are taller than the average 6th grader.

I disagree... Cars flex and bend into weird shapes in accidents. Without them being locked down, I'd be a little concerned. IMHO.

You make your girlfriend sit in the the back????????? I guess it is better than the trunk, where I make my wife sit.

She's nice that way, she'll usually offer up the front seat if one of mine or her friends is with us. Or if my buddy and his girlfriend are with us, the 2 girls will sit in the back and chit chat it up...

...and yes, if I'm in a serious enough accident where the car contorts itself to be able to freely release the headrests, there is a chance they can become airborne and fly in my direction. I would assume at that point there would be some bigger problems than projectile headrests, but I guess there is a small element of danger with this.

I don't want some g/f to wear out the front seat! She's lucky she's even allowed in the car!

And the headrest could just be the nail in the coffin or the staw on the camel's back... Or just the only real danger if the safety features implimented save you from the rest of the accident.

Yeah, imagine one of the rods being embedded into your scull from the rear... won't even see it coming.

If that's the case, then I'd suspect some higher being really wanted me off the earth.

It's like saying what if my school binder (which is in the car 99% of the time I'm in it) has enough force to hit my head and cause internal bleeding... Sure, it COULD happen...

The Gen I Sables came with rear headrests that went into the rear parcel shelf. Has anyone tried getting those to fit?

Agreed, I've seen them... only on a 50/50 seat back tho... they could have others I would assume somewhere... I always wondered why those weren't back there to begin with once I seen them in the sable...
