Well, on my way back from the shop last night (at 2:30am...) I got pulled over because the officer said my X1010's were too bright, and settled on the excuse of "you can't run foglights when there's no fog out". I knew where he was coming from, so I really didn't pursue the whole, "DOT legal, Auxiliary low-beam lights vs fog lights" argument. I was tired & wanted to get home.

They're not even aimed at the 2ft at 30ft; they're lower than that. Oh Well. FYI for those interested. Thought I'd share. :)

I just lowered my '97 in the front. I have the SilverStars and a 100w harness with some Pilot driving lamps which are on all the time the lights are on.

I had to adjust the lights up after the lowering and noticed this week that they were lighting the highway up for a good half mile. A couple of people have flashed me so I lowered them again but I was amazed at how well they lit up the road compared to what the gen 3 lights are like anyway.

I also used the SilverStars in my '93 with new headlight housings. Made a tremendous difference over the fogged up OEMS. I plan on making a 100w harness of my own for it.

sometimes cops are just pulling for excuses, i myself just got a ticket for an "unauthorized sticker". i had a static cling sticker from my alma mater in my rear window and apparently it was not "approved by the commisioner of motor vehicles". but i suppose i should'nt complain since it was in lieu of a speeding ticket :D but im sure you see my point.

Paul, did you do a comparison of the Silversar bulb and your existing headlight bulb before you installed the new housings? If so, what did you observe?

I also have the 9007 Silverstars in the 95 ATX (and the 9004 Silverstars in the 91). They are excellent in clear bezels (I had like-new bezels when I bought the car this year, before swapping out the bulbs), making a noticeable difference.

I also previously had the PIAA bulbs in my old 95 MTX, and I think these bulbs are better.

I was seriously thinking about moving the X1010 Xenarcs up on my list of stuff to get last night on the trip back from North NorCal while crossing back to the coast from the 5. I've got the Silverstars in my original Gen I housings. For the price they made a nice improvement over the original faded bulbs. They could only be better with nice new, clear housings. Still, on low beams they leave something to be desired. While cruising back at a more or less constant 85 mph towards the 101 from I-5 on the ever fun Pacheco Pass (highway 152) I felt the lighting was really holding me back. There was this big new Dodge (with a HEMI! :p ) riding my ass the whole way and I really felt like it would have been insane to push it any further without having more lighting. There was too much traffic to get any use out of the high beams (the Silverstars on high are pretty good, even with my foggy old Gen I housings). Anyways, the thought in the back of my mind was that some good HID lighting would have really put me at ease on that road. Big curvy highway mountain pass. Lots of traffic. Lots of opportunity to go real fast. Lots of opportunity to get into a real nasty accident if you **** up. Good vision is a mandatory handling mod under such conditions IMHO.

No I did not. The original lens were so bad you could not see hardly anything at night, I drained almost a cup of water out to the drivers side housing.

The Silverstars are IMHO as good as the PIAA 9007 and a less than half the price. These along with a 100w harness make for some very bright headlights.

Using my trusty DMM, I found the OEM headlamp harness providing ~1.x volts less than what the rest of the car was seeing. This equates to,on my car, about 16%-19% less lumens than with full voltage. I used two Bosch type SPDT relays and wired the silverstars directly to the battery. Not only was there a significant improvement over stock, it cost me less than dinner at Applebee's! :D
