Hey everyone, I got into a wreck with my SHO and I need to have a whole new front end. It sucks! I was wondering if I could go to the junkyard and cut the whole front end off of a gen 2 merc sable shrug ? I would use everything including the rad mount so I'm not sure if it would work. If anyone can help me or has a SHO in the St. Louis area that pretty much only has the front end that I could cut off to repair my SHO. It would have to be a gen 2.

Thanks for your help in advance,
Jason

Cutting and welding is not recomended on a unibody car, besides the only thing on a sable that fits a 2nd gen SHO are the fenders. How bad is the damage?

not gonna work. They are two differant beasts. Welding a front clip on a uni-body, bad idea. Find a SHO with a Blown tran, motr, get it, rebuild into that car. Or sell one of us your car for parts. Good luck, Craig

Did the bumper get pushed in? Or did you go under whatever you hit? Big difference in the repair procedure. If the rails the subframe bolts to are crushed its bad news. If you slid under, maybe only the top rails need replacing, and the radiator support. Strut towers pushed back any? Are the wheels real crooked or still about where they are supposed to be? Good luck.

Jaxon you have to be more specific when you say front end. Is the hood, bumper lights, radiator fenders, all smashed. what about the tranny cooler. I got into an accident and just had to throw a new hood and radiator in. Also i had to straighten out the radiator support assembly. Hopefully you will be able to salvage it. I would hate to see it go to the yard. There is a gen 2 here in a CT yard, but i don't know what shipping costs are like. Look on shoclub and in the forum. you might be able to find some parts to bring your gen 2 back to life. good luck.

Everything from a Sable will work on a gen 2 SHO except the center light bar and bumper! The core support (or radiator support) is the same on all tauri. I just rebulit the front end of my 94 mercury sable... I would say if you know how to weld everything the right way then go for it. It if you don't know what your doing then don't mess with it. If the welds are too weak the front end will cave in if it getts hit again, and the air bags may not go off. That will cause more damage and may even **** you or anyone else in the car. On the other hand if the welds are to strong the air bags will go off sooner and will be use less... again you could be killed or someone else in the car. I do this type of work everyday so to me it's no big thing (it's a pretty easy job), but if you've never done it before I'd leave it alone. If the core support isn't lined up perfect when you weld it the fenders and lights and the hood won't line up either! well thats my two cents...

Well, are you sure nothing is common between them except for the fenders, I was sure I saw something about the headlight mounting being the same but here are pictures of the car

in the two pictures you have shown it looks really bad but looking at the other pictures its really not that bad. ust have a body shop bent out the front and it should be good as new. all you'll have to find a body peices. i see no real structral damage. thumbs_u

The upper & lower radiator core supports from ANY '92-'95 Taurus or Sable will work. The header panel (headlight mounting bracket) will have to be from another SHO or Sable, the regular Taurus bracket is different. The bumper impact mounts and the bumper itself may be SHO-specific, I'm not 100% sure since my Hollander's is at home.

This doesn't appear to be as difficult of a repair as some might think, as long as the subframe and the subframe mounting points are intact. Basically you'll have to cut out the radiator core supports, straighten the inner fenders, and weld the replacement radiator supports in place. Then replace the fenders and all the front clip parts.

You'd probably be looking at ~$3500-$4000 for a body shop to do the work, but if you can weld and hammer, you could probably get out of it more in the $1000-$1500 range.

The hit is fairly low I would get the lower rails checked to make sure they are not bent. If the lower rails are good then it should be pretty easy to repair. I'd tear it all down and find out what is broken and what isn't then start looking for parts. I'm still looking for good used parts for my Sable. Ford parts ussally cost alot. Either way the frame need to be pulled out before you can replace it (the radiator support is part of the frame).
