We needed a tool for our 2009 Vette. The tool is used to program the new sensors in the winter wheels. Perhaps The General changed it to not need the tool since? Our BMW did not need a tool, it could be reset from the dash. I do not know how Ford handles the new sensors. I like the stock wheels enough to not want to change them :).

The dealer uses a tool. Even for the Cadillacs. If you have the tool, its quick. The sequence I talked about earlier is not commonly known. I would guess the Corvettes can be done the same way...

Thanks, guys. If I'd known I could do it for $29 I wouldve, but the rims are already on the way without sensors. Now I'll have to look at the silly light all winter.

Obviously, it's not going to be the same for the SHO, but maybe there is a sequence somewhere. Anyhow, here is the link for the Caddy. I've done it many times...

http://cadillacfaq.com/faq/index.html

for my Corvette, I just have to put the car in programming mode and then place a strong magnet by each valve stem (TPMS sensor) in the order of programming..(LF, RF, RR, LR) and it's done.

I had to do the SHO when I changed the wheels. They used an external device (on 2010 models the TPMS sensor is exactly OPPOSITE of the valve stem....the hardest part was that even the dealer couldn't put it in programming mode because of the push button start. The sequence is push the brake pedal and release, cycle the key 3 times push the brake pedal and release again and then cycle the key another time. The horn will honk letting you know it's in programming mode. The problem is that you have to hold the key more than one second each time to cycle to on without starting it. If you mess up the cadence you have to start all over. (I had to look that one up in the manual and then with the dealer instructions and the method to cycle the push button start we were able to get it done)

Hope that helps......

(By the way....your local chain tire store has the universal tool and will probably program it for free or near free) You don't have to buy the thing......

On the TPMS...I just ordered some winter tires/wheels and decided to skip the sensors because I was told you had to have a approx $200 tool to initialize different sensors and it would have to be used each time you switched wheels. Is this correct?

I got a TPMS kit from American Muscle for $150. All the parts are genuine Ford except for the mounting bands. The programmer looks kinda cheap, like a garage door opener, but it works find. Here's a the link: http://www.americanmuscle.com/tpms-fullkit.html In order to get in the programming mode, you need to get in and out of the engine on position 3 times. This is done by pushing the start button and holding it couple seconds without touching the brake pedal. Then, click your heels together and say, "There's not place like home." Well, there's more to the procedure to program the new sensors, I had my buddy at the dealer print out the whole procedure for me.

I've done it twice....Its just as I described it above. Once it's in programming mode you put the programmer near the TPMS sensor on the LF, RF, RR, LR in that order. The horn honks as each sensor is learned and exits after the last one.

Guys if you're looking for wheels then call Steve @ Tousley Ford in Minnesota because he sells all Ford Parts for 10% over stock. My 20" wheels are like $455 from him or close to it. All other wheels will be at that discount also.

1-800-328-9552 and ask for Steve.

I'm getting ready to order a set also for my wifes car.

I plan on getting mine from discount tire so I dont have to pay for shipping. Besides their warranty is awesome.

Would you guys run a 225 snow tire on this car? I know a skinnier tire is better for cutting through the snow, but it also seems it's going to affect the handling on dry pavement. Last year we barely had any deep snow, it was mostly just very cold. The quote for 18" wheels and blizzaks came in around $1,300 which seem high to me. I thought about doing a 17" wheel with a little taller tire.
