it is the front passenger window, and it works fine using the passenger door controls, but doesn't work when using the driver's "master" controls, except to put it back up. i've taken apart the door control on the drivers side, and all the wires are connected. shrug help please

Switch connection problems due to dirt or other things inside? Or the switch could be going, thats my guess, just go and get a replacement switch.

First try disassembling and cleaning the driver's door switch for that window. If that doesn't help, I'll bet that their is a broken connection in the electrical connector in the driver's door jamb. Those wires get flexed many times over their lifetimes and tend to break at the solder to the metal post in the connector.

Try the easy route with the switch and let us know if it works. If not, tell us if you want to dig into the door connector. I have the electrical schematics and can tell you which wires are the possible culprits.

I have had to repair at least three wires that I can recall in the junction over the 12 years and nearly 281,000 miles of my car's life.

I would just replace the drivers switch. I had the same thing on mine but it was the rear windows.

The switch was like $32 or $37 bucks with my Mustang Club discount. Works nice now!!!

Good Luck!

sho bc,

You can very carefully remove the driver's door switch, that is the master switch, then very carefully take the switch apart, and clean up the contacts.

The contact points get spots on them from arcing.
This may correct the problem for a short time. The copper connections in the switch loose their spring tension, as do the little springs. If the switch is the culprit the best thing to do is replace it.

While you have the switch out you can use a 12 volt battery and jumper wires (not jumper cables) to test the wiring circuit as SDPatt suggested. Using the wire diagrams you can trigger the front passenger window up and down.

If you have a shorted or open wire it will show up this way. As SDPATT says the wires in the front drivers door jamb get flexed regularly, and more often than any of the other doors. I have seen these wires split open and corrode, as well as break from the flexing. ranger
