I was over on the V8SHO site yesterday and noticed a modification to the article on wider wheels. Seems Buford (Tim Wright) was trying to put on 7.5 inchers (still 16s) and could not get the 225 tires he had on them to fit without rubbing the struts. This is very interesting, since most of the suggestions I have heard say to go to the 7.5" wheels. Anyone here had any actual practice at wider wheels with various heights and widths of tires? I am still thinking about wider rims to go over to summer and winter sets, but do not want to bother if the fit is a show stopper and I will end up just shipping things back.

Practical results from anyone?

It sounds like the wheel he put on had too much positive offset - wheels too far inboard from the hub face. With correct offset (38-45 mm) wheels, there should be no problem mounting 225s or even larger.

On my Gen I SHO, I have 7.5" wide, 35mm offset wheels. This offset moves the wheel too far outboard from the stock position and I had to remove about 3/8" of the inner rear fender lip to fit 225/55-16s on my low riding Gan I fenders.

Paul Nimz on the V8SHO list has 16 x 7.5 rims with 245/45 tires and has no problems. Probably has to do with offset.
