So here's my situation. I currently have a stainless-steel flex pipe true dual exhaust setup with only one cat (on the rear bank, but no 90-degree bend). It has two "resonators" (AKA in-line glass packs/cherry bombs) and then two tips that act as "mufflers" (AKA glasspacks again). It is louder than a Metallica concert. I want to quiet it down. Here are my options (due to finances):

1. Put some mufflers on the current set up and call it a day.
2. Go to the exhaust shop I go to and, for $220, they will make a stock set-up using the "mufflers" (glasspacks) I currently have. they will take the dual exhaust setup, eliminate both of the pipes from the cat-back and make it a single-pipe dual tip set up (stock). But I will retain those glasspack "mufflers".
3. Buy mufflers from a local parts supply place for $60 (thats right 60 total) and have the exhaust shop include that in the $220 build of my exhaust.

I'm not looking for performance, or loudness right now. What I want is to know my car is on, but not wake up the neighbors when I want a late-night fast fooding.

Either way, I'm doing something about this tomorrow. The cops are following me a little too closely lately, even if I'm not in the wrong.

I'd go with number one. The second choice doesn't look to solve any problem with the noise, just a different design.

What I ended up doing was a whacked out version of #3.

I got the mufflers and went to the exhaust shop but the built the exhaust in a fantastic fashion. They started out by eliminating all things flex pipe. Anything that was flexpipe was removed (that includes the front bank's representation of a y-pipe). They then constructed a custom-bent no 90-degree angle Y-Pipe and relocated the one cat I had to the section of pipe after where the two banks make one pipe. From there, they built a stock exhaust back to those mufflers I bought which also are stock.

Now I have a stock system with only one cat and a custom-made y-pipe that looks like it would flow well. I could not be happier! it's a bit tinny in the back as I have no resonator, but that can be fixed later. I have my power back on the freeway! The punch of the pedal in 4th or 5th and 70 mph does something now! Man and for $340 otd? NOT BAD.
