I have to agree with the rubbing. I've seen them on a Gen II and shaving the rear quarters was needed. I think it would be even worse on a first Gen.

I have 16" x 7.5" wheels with a 35mm offset on my 1991 and I had to trim about 1/2" from the inner fender lip to get them to fit without rubbing. The 35mm offset is too little, but with the 225/55 Bridgestone RE730s I have mounted, there is less than 1/4" of clearance between the tire sidewall and the rear struts.

Wider is not always better! Guess thats a anti-Pontiac commercial. The 9" wheels stick out a little too much for my taste. A member on this board (hasn't been around in a while) had the 9" Cobras and sold them cause they stuck out too much. I would definately look at one in person before making the purchase.

There is the narrower wheel for the T-Bird/Taurus.

I believe it is 17"x7.5".... Check www.PerformancePlus.com
I know they used to sell the silver ones...

Good luck

John, I have the t-bird/cobra wheels on my red sho. They are 17x7 and I run 235/45 series tires on them. There is no rubbing issue at all on the Gen II but I'm not sure about the first Gen. I'm going to try them on my 91' in another month or so. Its the same look as the 9" and it doesn't stick outside of the wheelwell.

I would definitely say 17x7.5 The offset on my Niche Spike's is 42. I've got them wrapped in Potenza re730 225/45/17. Its a farely tight squeeze in the back. But if I ever shave the back fenders I'll probably get some 235's
