I have a situation and need an opinion as to how to fix it.
half my key is stuck in the ignition switch
even b-4 the key broke..I couldn't get it to work on the passenger door.
Should i re-key the whole car??

do you have any spare keys or was that the only one. It was probably just worn out from being used so much, getting a key made for you locks will probably work. But im not an expert so don't quote me. Changing all the locks will be a real pita too.

The key doesn't work in the passenger door because it's worn out. The driver's door and ignition locks work because they wear out as the key does.

If you have a better key that works, you don't have to re-key the whole car. Even if you only have a worn-out key, a locksmith could still cut a new one to the original depths so it will work like new. I've had it done before.

You only have to match one tooth on the original key to a new lock, and then have a locksmith (NOT a hardware store) cut a new key that will fit both locks. I've got a diagram around somewhere, if I can find it I'll post it.

Another bit of advice, this is why I always keep a nice original key that I never use so I have something to make good copies from.
