In the near future, I'll be looking to replace my front struts and I was wondering what struts came on my model sho and what would be good today? I did some searching and I see some people mentioning the sensatracs if you're not doing any tracks or autocross. I'm just looking to have something close to stock thats smooth and not so rough but can take corners without so much roll. Now let the debate begin. :munch:

It's not that they are the best thing ever. They're just the best thing we can get that doesn't cost $700 and require you to cut your stock struts apart to install. Sensatracs are perfectly fine for a car that will just be driven, and will be tons better than the worn out shit that is on the car.

X2. I don't particularly like them but they seem better than the alternatives now available.

I'm running Gabriel Gas Struts on my 91' and have been extremely pleased with their performance. Ride quality is a little firmer than factor, but handling is flatter and transitions have less "bobble and float".

Are the sensatracs firm, softer or just like the oem's? What would be the next best thing after the sensatrac's?

The year of your SHO, and the transmission, will dictate whether your SHO hasthe high rate, or low rate springs from the factory.

I would only run Sensatracs with the low rate springs, but thats just me. You will be underdamped with the high rate springs.

I have a '92, so high rate (which I like) and Sensa Tracks; not bad, but I also have sub-frame connectors and strut tower connectors. Does that confuse things more?

The SHO's (most of them) came with SHO specific Motorcraft struts, which have been long since discontinued.

I've been using Sensatracs for several years and like them. The best part is that they have a lifetime warranty, so you can swap them for new ones whenever you want...as many times as you want.

I used them with the Moog CC's (one coil cut in the front)....they work great.

Struts

Monroe makes a "quik strut" and I have done 2 SHO in the last 2 years.
Call Monroe and ask if the have any promotions current or coming up, both times I got like buy 3 get 1 free or $150 rebate on each set. It is much easier to change the whole strut imho

What struts do you recommend for the higher spring rate cars? I have a 95, but am going to put some springs from an 89 and the bigger sway bars on it.

On my 95 ATX I kept the softer springs and went with the sensatracs, along with the bigger bars which seem to work well....but I want to do the firmer springs on my 95 MTX.

I only see a few choices for these cars. Gabriels and Sensatracs, the kyb's suck already been there.

I disagree with ya on the Monroe 'loaded' struts. My car sets 2 inches lower in the front than the back. Has since new, still does. I measured it on a pad, before and after I changed the struts, no height difference, only changed 'em because it snapped a strut rod making a downhill 180 at speed. I throw it in the same corners now that I threw it into in 1991, same feel, same results.

Mine sat wayyyyyyyy high in the rear with the quickstruts, and just regular high in the front.
