I am stopping by a friends house next week to have him look over my car. He makes parts for the neon srt-4, caliber srt-4, pt turbo, crossfire srt-6, and the mercedes c32 amg, e55 amg, and slk 32 amg.
Hard pipes with bov flanges, exhaust, intake manifolds are some of the things hes done. All are very top quality items. If theres anything of interest let me know and I will mention it to him.

Someone needs to come up with an exhaust mod that includes high-flow cats and a straighter design for the pipes running from the turbos to the 3rd cat area. This is a major restriction in our EB design.

Is it the same on all ecoboost cars?

I would like a quad tipped exhaust system.....but, alas, I haven't the funds!

I think the issue is the gap on the cutouts. The Taurus limited tips wont fit because the cutout on that bumper is much larger. I do like the looks though.

i would agree the stock piping that has the cats would be nice to replace with some high flow cats...

that pipe has a ****** that bolts to the turbo, and one that bolts to the mid pipe, so it appears it would be easy to reproduce with a high flow cat in it...

Is it a downpipe we are talking about? Does the o2 plug go in this section? I will have him look at it and price it our with stainless and a cat.

Would anyone be interested in a cutout in this pipe? I havent crawled underneath to see what the pipe looks like and if theres room, but he has made downpipes with cutouts for a few cars. You can manually open it at the track, or use a Mccord electric cutout so you have control in the cabin. Or no cutout at all? I probably wouldnt get one because the Mccord tends to leak after a while and needs to be rebuilt. I also want to keep the exhaust stock on this car, but it's an option I wanted to throw out.

Please don't put cut outs on a V-6, and please don't subject the new SHOs to that. We aren't working with the original SHOs here guys. :nut:

YES... The entire exhaust is similar, and is the same back thru the third cat and mid-muffler... wheelbase & car length issues vary the rear section.

My mid-section from NESHO which deletes the 3rd cat and the mid-muffler, and adds an x-pipe is the same as the SHO.

Actually turbo's and cutouts work VERY WELL together.
I had them on my speed6 (boost activated ATP VES) and I loved them. I could turn them on or off as desired. I had stock exhaust 98% of the time and a super loud exhaust when desired.

For a turbo car, everything past the turbo is a restriction and can go. The shorter and less restrictive, the better. Back-pressure just makes them spool slower.

I personally don't think cutouts are a great idea, since you end up with restrictive street legal and non-restrictive cutout exhaust, instead of just designing the street legal setup to be less restrictive.

This isnt something that stays open all the time. You can open it on command from the cabin, or with a few wing nuts at the track if you skip the electric cutout. Once closed it will sound exactly the same as a normal car.

Bingo. The turbos provide the back pressure to the engine. With a 3" downpipe and high flow cat on my neon srt-4, I went 13.3 in the 1/4 with it closed, and 13.1 with it open. Average time lost was .2 with it open over various runs. It sounded terrible and shot flames when shifting, but it did help out in times. That exhaust system was 3" the entire way through with only a high flow cat as the restriction (cat was before the cutout too). Again this was only a feeler to see what people want. It seems like the majority is no cutout, but he might be able to do both for those few who want it.

I really miss my old srt-4. The engineers designed the staged upgrades with a wot boost hold shift feature. If you kept the gas down between shifts the computer would dump fuel in between gears to keep the turbo spinning. This would cause a really loud boom if you had an upgraded exhaust and shot a flame out the back end (or the cutout)

Heres a video of the electric cutout in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lN-v1GHX8gw

Yeah I've been looking at that. There's also an issue with the fuel tank interfering with any adjustment of the right exhaust tip inwards. Other than that, the cutouts can be modified by a body shop to accommodate quad-tips.....I...must...have...them.... LOL

I looked under my Flex today, it looks like there's a good spot to put some boost controlled cutouts before the flex pipes that would be easily replaceable with factory exhaust pipes for any dealer visits if need be. :)
The down side is I'd really like to do a turbo to first cat exhaust but the dealer would frown heavily on this.
I'd love to dyno
stock
stock + airaid
stock + boost cut-out
stock +airaid+boost cut-out
tune (whatever stage) + airaid
tune + airaid+cutout
Then repeat all of the above with alky/water injection thrown into the mix. Back in the day I also did a bunch of research on propane injection on turbo cars as it's cold and very high octane but could never find a propane tank that I wanted to install in my car that I trusted. It's a good alternative to alky/water injection except for the cost of the propane tank.
Wouldn't take too long to do. and give good evidence towards the mods list.
