After washing my car, I have noticed the past two times that water leaks into my passenger floor board and I was wondering if anyone else had this issue? To dry it I have been taking my mats out and drying them in the sun but I also put my fans on high heat on my feet and leave it running with the windows up for a few minutes to dry it all up. It’s not a lot of water that comes in and I’ve noticed it only after a car wash and not when it rains, thinking it has something to do with the angle of the water that is coming in and the dryers pushing it into a little crack?

Does it happen outside of the carwash? hard rain? regular rain? THis is one of those things that you have to pull up the carpet in the area and have someone with a hose direct water one place at a time to find it. Does it look like more water in the middle like a door drain and bottom seal or coming from the firewall/footwell toward the engine? You're going to have to sleuth it.

It looks like it’s coming from the footwell, I noticed it last time I went to the car wash so I watched it the whole time throughout the wash today and the water started to trickle in once the air dryers were blowing on my car to dry it off. Other than that, I never get rainwater into the vehicle, it’s only been from the car wash.

Well the general leak areas are clogged sunroof drains, windshield seal, clogged up door drains or door seal. I'm not sure what the common areas for leaks are in the front below the windshield. I wonder if there is a seal or gasket around the air intake vents at the base of the windshield to get air for heat, vent, ac air intake. maybe water can get in there? Looking for other options but I would clean the sunroof rains and the drains on teh bottom of the door to let water out as those are easy and accessable and go from there.

Sometimes there can be a body seal leak where panels were sealed together at the factory. You might have to chase it with a hose and being on the inside to see where it's trickling from to isolate it. Used to be a specialist in my city that did this as a major part of his business.

There is a drain tube somewhere on the passenger side, from Google gets clogged. And have you taken the cowl off yet?

Definitely drain plugs. Just did this with mine. You’ll need an air compressor with a small rubber tip to secure a good seal. I ordered a cheap end from Amazon for 20$. Worked great.

So I found a video that pointed to the problem and I have a very good feeling that it is what’s going on but I’m trying to get to it but the clips that are holding the piece in are a pain in the a** to take off. Anyone got any tips to take these off the easiest?

Good find. Glad you started digging. Have you tested it to make sure?

And if you can describe it more, for those in the future pulling their hair out trying to figure this out, that would really help.

Oh yeah for sure,

If you are having water leak issues with water coming into your front floorboards, try this. If you open your hood and look at where your windshield wiper blades are, at the base of them there is a plastic cover that spans from one side to the other between the engine bay and your windshield. This piece is held on by a 4 clips but you only need to take the two outside ones off to get to the spot, if you can figure out how to take the middle to off then go for it but I couldn’t and I still got the job done. After taking them off, you lift up that piece and underneath you will see a little open area, above the passenger side will be where your cabin air filter is but also a little rubber drain that is shown in the post above. Remove the drain and empty it if it is clogged as well as wash it thoroughly because if it was like mine it will be sticky making it easier for stuff to catch into again. Once you do that, take a vacuum and vacuum the whole area out if there is any water or leaves, pine needles or any other crap that is in there. I recommend to vacuum in the engine bay just under where the drain sits, mine was filled with stuff that must’ve gone through it and started to pile up. After it looks clean, put the rubber piece back in and you’re all done on that side. On the drivers side, repeat the same steps but there is a little less room for you to get into it and you won’t be able to vaccum under the drain. I hope this helps anyone that has this problem, if these are not thorough enough, feel free to reply to this and I will try to explain it more as quick as possible.

I just did this a few weeks ago as well. The drain grommets were full of debris. I ended up just leaving the grommets out after I cleaned and vacuumed the entire area underneath the cowl out so it won't happen again. Mine has not leaked again since I cleaned these out. I also replaced my in cabin filter while I was at it, which is behind the glove box, super easy. Those metal clips from Savage's images I just grabbed with needle nose pliers and pulled straight out and they will come off.

After you remove the wipers and remove the cowl, on the passenger side you'll see this area which is the fresh air intake for the interior.
Cowl 4

The drain grommet is located right below it.
Cowl 2

Full of debris.
Cowl 3

No chance to drain. Like I said I just left them out.

It looks like this can be added to the list of occasional maintenance. Maybe this should be a sticky at the top for easy reference for owners in the future.

My sunroof drains are clogged as well, last time the car was in a downpour my console was soaked and my cupholders literally had an inch of water standing in them. Water was standing in the shift boot lol. But I haven't had a chance to work on them yet.

I ordered a 60" long wire brush drain cleaner and an 17"-26" extendable air nozzle to clean them out.

Mine has behaved a little differently - water around the cowl wets the cabin air filter and blocks all air flow. Ended up replacing the cowl three years ago since it wasn't sealing to the windshield. I clear the cowl drains about every 2 years. I last cleared the sunroof drain tubes three years ago after the headliner showed it was soaked from above. There's a new problem that my driver's seatbelt is coming out of the retractor damp. Haven't figured out how the water is getting into the B pillar. Anyone else have this problem and/or any insights?

In other cars I have seen cracking in the water channel(s) where the roof trim pieces are.

Maybe sunroof drain disconnected or hole in the hose. I think the drains run to A & C pillars via hoses??
