valve seals

does anyone know about how much the valve seals cost?

List price is around $6 per seal. Intake and exhaust are different seals, but the same price. If you're replacing valves on a cam failed engine you'll need to replace the valve guides as well. About $4/each list price IIRC.

They usually crack or deform when the piston tries to ram the bent valve back up.

well i looked at them real good and the hole is not oblong and the ends of the guides are not bent or cracked they still have a very nice tappered end.the valve stem does not have wobble . i can take pics to show you. the understanding i got from the guy i bought the car from was the man tried to start the car and the cam failed before the engine started.

Here's the thing. If you had 8 bent valves in one head, ~$32 is cheap insurance to avoid the more costly prospect of finding out that one or more is fubared after the motor is back together. We regularly see 2 or 3 guides in each head that are damaged, and it's something you can't usually see with the ***** eye.

the thing is i am almost out of money here and the ford place gave me a price around a 100 dollars for them valve guides. i am taking the head to machine shop that does only automotive and race cars, he is a longtime family friend and see what he has to say about it also and see if he can find the parts if needed at a better price i have already spent 150.00 on the cams and 81.00 on the valves, and a 78.00 dollars on head bolts, my budget is 450.00 maybe 500.00 if i can let a few bills go. so my funds are running very low and i am doing all of my work in a gravel driveway. and my engine is covered with plastic. so i am trying to get this car back together asap. seeing how this is my only car .

Ahh, ok then. I guess the best I can do then is wish you luck. I couldn't imagine trying to put one of these engines back together on such a tight budget. The chance of a failure a short hop down the road is simply just way too high IMHO.

FWIW, you got shafted on the head bolts. They list out at $3.16/ea (P/N F6DZ-6065-BA), which would be $31.60 per head. Presumably, you only had one cam fail and removed only one head. I probably shouldn't even ask if you've priced new headgaskets yet.

no i got all 20 i am removing the other head to check for trash etc since i did not take the top of the motor apart and i dont know how long it was that way. so the price on the bolts all 20 and they was 3.16 each +tax.

and i priced the head gaskets and i know there around 200 each and i am talking to guy at a ford dealer and he is trying to get them at wholesale cost to ford for me. if not then i am screwed on the gaskets.
