On the side of the valve cover the two bolts, how crucial are they? mine came almost all the way out when suddenly they snapped!

This happened to me also and you definately need them. I ended useing a nut and bolt on mine but I guess it depends on how much snapped off. Mine had enough metal on the top for a bolt to sit on. I can take pics tomorrow if you want. Just a side note if you use a nut and bolt just tighten it a little because it will clamp down too much and the timing chain will hit the valve cover.

Mine broke when I tried the EZ out and if you use the nut and bolt just snug a little bit. I torqued mine to factory specs and it was too tight, the valve cover ended up hitting the timing chain so I loosened it and it's fine now.

This happened to mine. I drilled mine out and then put a bolt all the way through with a washer and lock washer on the back. On the front I used the rubber gromet washer off the original bolt. Worked like a charm.

If you could get the rest of the bolt out with an ez out you could use a tap to clean up the thread and get a good bolt from a forum member.
