it shouldn't need any tuneing or through any cels. the y pipe is a factory replacement with a higher flow rate. the bends are better and the cats flow alot more.

These unit come with hi-flow cats so there will be some gains over the stock units.

None, is most likely. There is not a lot to be gained out of exhaust mods other than sound and a bit of redistribution on the curve for the torque peaks, from what most testing I have seen has determined.

Thanks guys. I've heard that before but I was just curious. I've also heard that there are some gains to be had out of a catless y pipe with a tune but I don't know that I'll ever know about that first hand...

I am sorry, but from all of the reseach that has previously been done on this question, that is simply not likely to be correct. A great deal of it is still available in the form or articles, letters, and graphs of data. It all points to there not really being anything of note to be gained on the exhaust side of things. I would suggest you go dig around and look at some of it.

I know for the V6 SHO it shows a good improvement with the MaganFlow over stock though some of it may be due to removing the straight pipe. If you replace the cats with high flow units you should see more power of stock as you have just removed the greatest restriction in the exhaust system.

I have checked a V8sho.com as well as SHOFOrum and I didn't find any comparisons. So what do you have in the way of evidence?

Steve, Matt is part of SHO Source which is a forum sponsor. According to the agreement between the sponsors and me, they're allowed to advertise products they have in any of the forums. I know your intentions were good, but I will reopen the topic so as to honor our agreement.

Is there a 3rd cat delete pipe that is made for our cars? Where do you find these?

There used to be a vendor that sold one. I forget who it was, though. You can easily have one made for cheap, though. Get yourself 4 2.25" 2-bolt flanges and gaskets. Cut the exhaust just behind the cat, weld flanges on the pipes at the cut. Get a piece of 2.25" pipe that is the exact length of the cat from the ****** at the flex pipe to the new ****** on the other side of the cat. Weld the other two flanges onto the ends of the new cat-less pipe. Bolt in place of the cat. Now you can run without that 3rd cat and swap it out whenever you want. That is what I did and it worked great.

Something like this:

Does the redesigned Y-pipe remove the restriction that is at the end of the stock Y-pipe?

I had heard early in the Gen 3 life that the Y-pipe was a fairly good design, without the restrictions seen in the Gen 1 design. Also, I had heard that high-flow cats would not pass the downstream O2 sensor check, but have been assured by ShoSource that their Y-pipe will meet CA emmissions.
