I hope I don't rub anybody the wrong way, but I've got a project car in mind using a V6 out of wrecked SHO. One thing I need, though, is the external dimensions of the engine (length, width, and height). I've been unable to find this data anywhere- and I figured perhaps it was time to ask the men who own one.

Also, looking at various pics of the upper and lower intakes, it appears to be possible to flip the upper around 180 degrees and bolt it back down to the lower (bolt pattern looks symmetrical, though of course, there are numerous harnesses that won't reach)- much like the upper and lower intakes on EFI 5.0 Fords can be flipped around to clear engine bay obstructions, if needed. Has anyone tried this, or can anyone verify that it will or will not work? A little (or maybe even a lot) of harness lengthening, cable re-routing, and fabrication won't deter me.

I don't have the engine dimensions handy, but regarding the intake manifold, it is indeed symmetrical, so it can be flipped around (along with the harness modifications, etc.), but in order for the throttle body to clear the upper timing belt cover assembly you'll need to have some spacers fabricated to raise the intake a bit. If you run a search on this forum or check www.shotimes.com you should be able to track down lots of info from people who have installed the SHO motor in other bodies, street rods, etc.

I tried AllData-no tech specs.

If anyone could just take a tape measure to thier engines (V6 & V8) next time they check the oil or add washer fluid, then shoot me an email or reply here, it would be greatly appreciated. :)

I'd ask someone who has one sitting out of the car. Try dropping Tom an email at the sho shop and see if he can get some measurements.

are you stuffing it into a 912???

That would be incredible! thumbs_u

Im worried about weight distribution though.
SHO blocks are considerably heavy compaired to the original 912 (4 or 6).

Id love to here more!

Pictures! Pictures!

sunny San Juan Bautista,
All 912's were 4 cylinders. I'd love to put a SHO engine into my 914. A lot cheaper than doing a 911 engine conversion (but probably a lot more work too). I really ought to just sell the car and use the money for a Quaife. Sad thing is it was my first car, got it a few months before my 16th birthday back in '87 sniff :(
