The other day I started up my 93 ATX. Noticed a strange slapping sound, so I popped the hood and noticed my drive/serpentine belt was split a little bit, so I hopped back in to shut off the car, by the time I did the belt snapped completely. So I replaced it, drove the next day. On my way home from a movie with the girlfriend, I heard kind of a popping noise, so I raced home, and popped the hood. Was confronted by my new belt being broken, and a small fire near the power steering pump. I grabbed a jug of water and poured the fire out quickly. I pulled out the battery/tray today and removed the split new belt, and luckily found no serious damage from the fire. However I noticed my crankshaft pulley is sitting far too close to the engine, and is therefore out of line with the other pulleys. How do I deal with the pulley? Is there a simple way to adjust it back in line? Or do I need to actually pull it off and replace it. I'm seriously lost here.
