For those of you that have tried Mobil 1 and have had not-so-good results with it, what other ATF's have you ran and what are you running currently?

I got Royal purple MAX ATF , but I can't tell the diff with Mobil1 never tried it.

Other brands you can count on is Redline or Amsoil (ATF)

I think synchomech gave some good results on some SHOs but very few tried it.

not trying to hi-jack your thread, but. I bought a rebuilt tranny and had it installed, long story short i checked the fluid awhile later and it looks like gear oil in it. It would have to be gear **** in it actually theres no way atf would get that color, or that thick. I've put about 5,000 miles on it no problems.

You're only asking for trouble. Get rid of the gear oil and put the proper fluid (ATF) in there.

I used to run Redline D4 ATF because my transmission didn't like Mobil 1. I liked it, but now I run Redline MT-90 because I now have brass blocking rings.

How are those rings treating you with that fluid?

Well, it's hard to comment. The transmission was shimmed tighter, so no matter what I put in it, it absolutely hates the cold. First gear at a stop sometimes just will not go into gear. I have to put it in 3rd, then 2nd, then 1st. Another factor is that my idle is set pretty high (which I will tune out). When rolling, it goes right into first, just not so well from a stop. It used to be like that before to, just not so bad... So I think just lowering the idle will help greatly.

When everything is warm, it shifts VERY nicely. The hotter I get it (driving hard), it shifts better. I shifts like it used to when warm when I had the fiber-lined rings and Redline D4 ATF. I am considering trying the D4 again to see if first gear will clean up, but I'm guessing that is just a characteristic of the shimmed gears and the high idle.

I take it you got my PM Brian? :)

So there is a difference in shifting with the fiber-lined versus the brass?

I filled my tranny with Redline, by the way, but I have not actually ran it yet to tell how it shifts.

I went from the regular atf to the Gm syncromesh. Before i switched i would always have a hard time hitting second gear on a wot run. It was like hitting a brick wall when trying to pull it in. The rest of the trans was pretty notchy as well.

About 500 miles after changing to the syncromesh, it shiftes like a dream. Nice and smooth, and good shifts into second. I dont have any experience with the Mobil 1, but i think the syncromesh is good stuff.
