Hello, I am new to the forum. I bought a 99 SHO earlier today. I picked it up in West Va and was on the way home to Christiansburg Va. I made it about half way and the car started smoking. I stopped asap and got a look see under the car. It appears that trans fluid was just running out just inside the driverside front tire. An educated quess is the trans cooling line is loose or busted. I am headed to p/u the car with a trailer. The dealer told me they changed the fluid in the trans recently. Question, Do I have to remove anything to get to these cooling lines? Any suggestions would be great. I am going to post a hello / description soon.

Take the battery out and take off the battery tray. Not an easy task to get that tray out though. The lines are under there. I've got pics I'm posting up now. The lines run right down by the subframe and you can see them. Also if you take off the front bumper you can see the "tiny" factory trans cooler.

Well... I had this all torn apart when I installed a Gen II ATX cooler as per Nimz's recommendations and just took pictures of it all for reference for me, and whoever needed it in the future. Good luck with everything.

I got the car home last night. This am we looked everywhere for the leak and couldnt find a thing. I have drove it about 45 min and had no problems. It only seemed to leak when its hot(highway miles) any clues?

Usually leakage when hot is out the top vent.

Did the OD light start to flash?

How does the fluid look? Put a drop on a white napkin and you will see the grit and carbon if it's bad.

Has the fluid been changed fluid lately?

Do you have an additional cooler installed?

Sorry for the delay. I took the car to AAmco, they said it needs a soft parts rebuild. 1297$!!!! so much for getting a deal on the car. Yes by the way the od light did flash. What does that mean?

I would not recommend Aamaco.

Usually when the OD ligh flashes and the fluid boils out it means the fluid exceeded 300F.

Better add a cooler and if you don't use synthetic ATX fluid then change it at 15k.
