I want to check if my tranny fluid is at the right level...I have a feeling it is low. Where is the plug to fill the tranny?! 1990 MTX by the way. I cannot find it...must be hidden? Shifting is a bit stiff...I have a friend who had the same problem on his acura and it turned out his tranny fluid was low. So, I want to check this before doing the pain in the butt clutch change on this puppy. Thanks for your time and help.

The manual transmission's fill and level check plug is located on the forward face of the casing, a couple of inches to the passenger side of the mating surface of the two case halves, about 4" up from the bottom of the casing. The plug has a square hole that a 3/8" socket wrench with 3" extension can be used to turn. You must raise and jackstand the car to be able to slide under to access the plug.

The level of the fluid should be up to the hole when the car is on level ground. You can use a funnel with hose from above or one of those push pumps that fits in the bottle from below to add fluid. The fluid specified in my 1991's owner's manual is Type F ATF.
