I race with the Salina Region of the SCCA here is Kansas. This is my first year racing and I took 2nd place in the STS class. While I had to end the year in a Saturn SC2 I did earn most of my points, and all my better finishes, in my 89 SHO. As far as I know the entire suspension is factory stock with 130k miles and 17 years of wear. I would buy tires from a junk yard ever few races for $25 a pair so I did not wear down my good all-season tires.

First place was taken by a guy in an almost new Nissan Sentra. The best part about placing was knowing I did it with a $1500 Taurus SHO with junk yard tires. I am proof that you don't need much money to Autocross.

Really though, the trophy is just the icing on the cake. I had a blast driving my car and would be hooked even if did not win anything.

I said I finished the year in a Saturn. I put the SHO in the shop to get the front seats professionaly redone towards the end of the season. They are nice and non-ripped now. The Saturn was fun, but I kept looking for that 110 HP I lost. Here it is, right in the SHO where I left it! Oh, and I did rent a Cobalt from Enterprise and raced it when the SHO broke the front motor mount just before a race.

Congrats, looks like the SHO is really coming into it's own in the autocross world. I just took class champ in CP in my area.

Keep it up.

I finished in the middle of most races with the SHO. I took 2nd for the season by only missing one race and even last place gets points for showing up. In most races a 1-3 second improvement and I could have taken 1st so I always felt good about how the SHO and I were doing.

Looking at the list it looks like 3-6th place were held by two guys in older Nissan Sentras, a Honda Civic and a new VW GTI Turbo. The only reason the GTI did not win the season was lack of participation. He won every time he showed up.

Right now the entire rear suspension is out of the car and I am supposed to pick up my new KYB struts today. New strut mounts, springs and every piece of rubber I can get to is being replaced as well. By next season I will have a new front suspension (if weather allows) and a new set of Falken Azenis tires as well. I am also enrolled in the Evolution Driving School at the beginning of the season so the driver gets some upgrades as well. I hope to get those 1-3 seconds killed so I can get some 1st place wins next year.

If that does not work I am the Tech Inspector so maybe I need to be a bit harder on a certain Nissan Sentra (evil laugh).

Good choice on the tires. i love mine. and i want in on the evolution school also, just having problems finding the money to enroll. The car budget has been ruff this year.
