too much tranny fluid

is it possible to put in too much tranny fluid in an mtx or will the extra just flow out the shaft holes? i have 4 quarts

You fill it untill it comes out of the fill hole.
should only take 3 if it is totally empty.

Please be sure to use ATF only,something synthetic if possible.
I prefer Mobil 1.

my fill hole wouldnot budge so added it slowly through the sensor hole up top. added 3 1/4 quarts for extra insurence

ok, i have 4 quarts of mobil one, if i fill in drain hole will it end up comoing out of the shaft holes? i want to do this before i drop it in the engine bay. Maybe ill try to find some plugs till i can get the cv joints in it.

ok, ill attempt to do it after the engine is in the car but then why do people drill new plug hole? is it in a bad location? plus then i need a specail adapter to attch to the bottle of fluid right? i remember doing this on my explorer diff before..

People drill a drain hole in the bottom of the transmission to make fluid changes easier. The other option is to suck it out with a fluid pump.

That's what I did, and then filled it though the stock fill hole, using one of the hoses from the fluid pump, and a funnel. Then just looked under the car till fluid trickled out.
