ok on friday night i accidently hit a cement pole at a car wash...it was hidden behind some wweeds and viones...anyway....I hit it pretty hard and upon inspection i found that i had bent the inner tie rod in half....so i removed and replaced both the inner and outer rods...by the way this is oe the passenger side of a 90 sho...ok bcak tot he story...well had everything back on the cra and counted the number of turns on the tie rod end exactly and tighgtened everything down to torque specs...well i took her out for a drive and when i start moving my passanger side tire starts to squel like it's being dragged...well as i dover her down the strret she was steerling to the left and right by it self and jump it around....so i had a friend look at it as i was drivin and he said it was woobling as i went down the road...so i put the car on stand and there a ton of toe in ...as in i can so from straight to massive toe in and back to straight...tired to get it have play on the rear of the tire on the tire rod end but there wasn't anything....so my question is what else should i check for damanage or bent or misaligned parts...what would cause the tire to wooble...and it's when at the 9 and 3 postion and there's only a ton of play when i push in on the tire at the 3 clock poston...the other way by pulling out on it there's no play.....lugs and axle are tightened to specs....so what could it be?

if i recall isnt that wobbling one of the signs of a bad bearing? i know if you have the wheel up and can push it up and down thats more or less a red flag. anyone anyone? im not 100% sure on that though so hopefully someone else will chime in.

There should be NO play in the wheel bearings. With the tire off the ground, grab the tire and the top and bottom or front and back and check for play in the bearings.

There is very little (closer to "no") chance that you can accurately set the toe-in after installing new tie rod parts. Get the suspension properly alined.

had the tire up i the air and there was tons of side to side play but no up and down play...so the wheel bearing might be shot??

Since there is play in only one axis, the probability is greatest they you have a tie rod problem. Have someone move the wheel for you while you put your hand over the outer tie rod end and joint. If the problem is tie rod related, you will be able to feel the movement.

It is possible that the bearing, hub, or knuckle was damaged, but it is important to rule out he inner and outer tie rod joints as possible causes.

I replaced both the inner and outer tie rods after i hit it b/c it bent the inner tie rod into a u shape...and the is no play on the rear on the tire(tie rod side) but up front i can move it from straight to toe in and back to straight...it a good amount of movement....and as i drive down the street the passangeer side tire(the problem side) drags and sounds like i'm burning out all the time...there is also a large amount of play in the steering wheel...this is the front passanger wheel by the way

The bearing and or hub are my guess too. If you want to check inner tie rod ends you put the car up and push and pull the wheel on its 3 and 9 o'clock positions. For wheel bearings you push and pull on the 12 and 6 o'clock positions. As for outer tie rods you get under there snd geab the tie rod shaft (to the inner tie rod) and push up and down. Try to only use 25lbs. of force (use your judgement). My wheel bearings were bad and my wheel was all over the place. if it is your wheel bearings they might have to be pressed in. I'm leaning towards the hub.

Good luck

ok tie rods are perfect...replace both with FM parts...when up in the air tire only at the 3oclock postion does the tire move tie rod side(9 oclock) there's no movement...also 12 to 6 movement is none...so like this tire in air and paralelle to the car....tire only moves from straight to toe in and back to stright on the front of the tire...so it toes in and out....with car also on the ground the toe in is horrible....replace the tie rods right..same # of turns...so should i just play it safe and replace the whole hub...how much would one cost and can i get on at like at like az? how hard of a ob is it?...by the way it's the front passanger side wheel....i hit a cement cloumn at about 15 mp.....how easy is it to mess up the lower control arm?.....thanks fro the tips so far

Another thing that I was thinking was that you might have bent the strut tower. Do you have a pic of the inner tie rod? If so email it to me. I'll ask my teacher at school maybe he has some input. IMHO, I think you should take it to a reputable alignment shop and have them diagnose it.

Good luck
