Any tips on picking tires? Currently I have Dayton Daytona ZRs on the front, and Yokohama YK420s on the back. I had Pirelli P4000's on the back, but those wore down. (They were on the car when I got it). The Daytons where already on the car when I got it, and they've been GREAT tires. I would like to get more of those, but they're not on Tire Rack...

Hey there. I have a red '92 MTX also, and I got some hella-nice looking tires from TireRack-- BF Goodrich Traction T/A's to be exact. I got them in 225/55 R16 (of course R16.. because I have the factory wheels still and plan on keeping them). They really give it a nice, aggressive look. They're a bit wider than the factory tires.. a tad taller (fills the wheel wells/fenders much more... gives it a nice look there too), and provide plenty of traction. I've had mine for almost 15,000 miles now and they're holding up great. I'm a little aggressive with my car too... I've also spun the tires (gently) a few times so there's a little more wear on the front tires right now. But honestly they're great tires for dry and wet pavement. They even did pretty good in the snow too. I have a few pictures of my car with the tires when I first got them put on, so if someone teaches me how to post an image I'll be glad to show you how nice they look. Take it easy!

Since you are in Texas snow is probably not a concern. The biggest decisions are your priorities, is it ultimate traction, ride, or tire wear, and of course budget. Sometimes you can find great deals on ebay or locally when someone upgrades or "takes off" oem.
I once got a great deal for a set Bridgestone RE040s for $150. Stuck like glue but did not last long. I now have Michelin Pilots that I like very much. Just having a set of matching tires will make your car handle better. Also,Tire Rack has a review section that might be helpful.

Good Luck!

If you like the reviews, price and looks of the SP9000, go for it. They are a very good tire. My friend has them on his Maxima and he loves them. We'll see how he does with them at Lime Rock this week.
