Finally time to get my windows tinted. Anyone have a favorite brand and how much should it cost installed? Any watchouts? Thanks

I think I paid $250 for mine. 10% on rears, 20% up front. I paid for a slightly better tint than regular.

I think we paid $ 450, but it was a big job.

Double 5% (limo) on all rears, 5% on front sides, and 35% on the entire windshield.

Wow Tint is expensive.

My tint guy came to my house to do mine.

On the 2010 double limo on rear window and doors, 15% on front doors and the entire windshield.

I paid extra for the ceramic geoshield stuff.

And it was 250.

The 2011 geoshield limo on the back and 25% on the Front doors. I paid 125.

All this was lifetime parts and labor, custom heat shrink film for the back window.

The reason for the ceramic film, is that the Lexus LS460L (pictured behind the SHO), the tint apparently was messing with the smart entry and push to start. So when I read about it, I asked the tint dude and he recommended ceramic. Never had an issue.

Not sure if this affects Taurus owners or not.

Rick that looks really nice. No issues with Michigan window tint laws? I havent reviewed the laws myself, but I've heard their restrictive.

The law for tint in MI reads...

The use of tinting is limited to the rear side windows, the rear window if the vehicle has outside mirrors on both sides, and the top 4 inches of the front side windows. There is a limited exception for medical necessity with a doctor's prescription, which allows for tinting to be applied to the front side windows as well. Michigan does not have a specification for the darkness of the window application, but does prohibit applications with a solar reflectivity greater than 35%.

Depends where you are. State cops and county will pull you over. State cops especially. Shelby Twp is also very strict on tint as well.

35% on the front and 15% on the back. Any tinting on the front windows whatsoever is illegal in Alberta. I believe that a black car NEEDS tint so I risk the tickets for it...... :swing:

Wow, Andrew....Alb isn't very friendly with tint.....In Ont. we're allowed 35% -- I'm thinking of 30% front and 20% rear.

Yours looks very good.

You're lucky Colin. 35% in the front still looks good and it's what I do on most of my cars. I've really racked up the tickets over the years, however I refuse to stop doing it. It's a ridiculous law! I guess you easterners aren't as bad as I thought..... :swing: jk!

YOu get yours done in the US? I'm wondering which to get here in Ont.

There are tons of shops here that will tint your front windows even though it's illegal. They just make you sign a form that waives all responsibility should you get a ticket.
I personally use a company called Ziebarts for my tinting. They always do a great job and guarantee their work. I'm pretty sure that they have locations in Ontario as well. They're not the cheapest out there, but they always satisfy this fussy customer. :p
