Timing chain cover

im a noob with the SHO engine.......

whats the deal with the Timing chain cover... is it metal? I guess I could tap on it to really find out lol.... I was thinking of maybe polishing or painting it one day, are there any gaskets for it that need to be replaced if you remove the cover? thanks for ur help

It is plastic.....their is a timing belt behind it not a chain. Their is a chain that connects the two cams on each head. However, we have a belt between the crank and the heads. The covers have rubber seals around them to seal off the belt. I don't think anybody has had the need to replace them - I doubt you could find a factory replacement for the seals.

Some paint them. Off Road SHO - has a polished aluminum top cover that says YAMAHA - I think he still has a few more...not sure though.

Does the timing belt just run up to the front head along the radiator or to both heads? and then the cams are driven off a seperate chain system? I'll probably just spray-paint the cover red one day if I keep the red theme going.

The purpose of the timing belt is to keep both sets of cams in time, so yes, the belt goes to both heads.

how much does one want to sell one for?

I see yours is on a buggy, how does it fit on a 3.2 mounted in a SHO? does it pretty much just cover the timing chain cover and fit it real snugly or does it protrude out more and take up more space?

I kind of need to spend my money on brakes and suspension right now but that is 1 cool piece.

Spend your money on brakes. My upper timing cover is strictly for bling effect. It makes other non bling-bling in the engine compartment look even worse when you put it on. They're close to 500.00 each. They actually stick out less than a OEM plastic cover; I had them do it that way so that I could have a nice flat surface on which to have the "YAMAHA" milled. Strictly for the bling, I get a LOT of praise for it and the polished intake.

yeah thats a little much for me right now when I need to upgrade my brakes and tires... I didn't know it was a whole new cover, I was under the impression that it was a cover for the cover if u get my drift.

Im defintely going to polish my intake one of these days........
