ok i decided to crack open my cam cover for the first time since i bought the sho (in 99) and saw that the belt looks really good. i was wonder who made the original belt? ford, yamaha or was it a different company? mine says made in japan so i'm thinking its possible its original. mine's a 93 atx. it would be cool to know it has 180k and no wear on it! :thumb:

Line the crank up TDC and see if the cams line up as well. The gas piston tensioner can only go so far before it runs out of adj.

Oh yes, it has wear at that mileage. Replacing that stretched out belt will return the cams to the original timing that generated the claimed horsepower. You will see a difference. Trust me.

And you should hear it too :)
Especially around, oh... 3950 RPM...
Scott's right, replace it. You may only have a small degree of cam slop, but none is still better.

During some front engine work when I first got my SHO, I went ahead and replaced the belt since I was in there changing cam seals. The existing belt only had 36xxx miles on it.

I noticed a significant difference in performance :****:
Reved MUCH smoother, and power was upped significantly.

If it's the original belt, then IMO you are driving around on borrowed time, asking to be stranded somewhere with a broken or stripped belt (like I was). And your SHO is underperforming.

It's time to get off your butt (and/or pull yourself away from your Mustang :D) and do a front 60K on your SHO. :burn_out:

ok no offense to any of you guys, as i know you are trying to help but, none of your answers are for what i asked. lol i wanted to know who made the original timing belt as i wanted to know if it had ever had some sort of 60k. the belt looks really good is why i'm asking..

and no its not under performing when it whooped the tail off a 2002 or 03 is300 before it was put up. (i swear this thing is a factory freak, which is the reason why i bought it)

I dug out my old timing belt since I'm working in the garage today. I have to look real close, but I can see it has "PowerGrip" stamped on it, as well as "Made in Japan" in smaller letters. It also has the number KOA-A3527-00 on it, and also another number 155YG32. Here's a pic:

Does it look anything like yours?

Doesn't matter what it looks like or where it was made. Put a new belt in! How many miles did the car have when you bought it?

well a little, hehe maybe a little different ;) mine says made in japan as well, also has the 155YG32 number on it it doesn't, from what i could see, have the K0A number (or K0B if its 3.2l specific). i've forgotten again but it said something like "sabaki" for the name.
