Any idea what plugs this hole? I thought it was this, but the wire won't reach.

it is the low oil sensor hole. The sensor in your second picture should screw right in. The wire is a tight fit, so I would bet you just need to alter your wire routing and it will work just fine.

Stupid question: if this harness was from a 92, would that bugger things on a 90?

Usually to avoid problems, whatever harness you use, it MUST match the computer. IE : 92 harness with 92 ECU.

Well f*** a duck.

Wait a second. I have the computer that came with the harness. See the problem is that this engine was purchased to replace an engine that was blown. I got all the harnesses and computers and such. I think it is a 92 because the harness with the ABS and headlights is different and the starter is a 92 version. So I have a 90 harness in front and a 92 engine, harness and computer (which says XJ2, btw). Now would that cause a problem?

Cutting it may throw the actual reading off. That is the problem with cutting and adding wire on an 02 at least...

I'm probably going to have to cut it anyway, since there appears to be no gentle way to remove the wire. Adding six inches of wire or so shouldn't hurt anything if it's just a voltage reading.

doesn't matter between the 90 and 92 injector harnesses, as I have swapped both back and forth with no problems. I am running a 90 injector harness in my 92 right at this moment
