What is the difference between a genuine ford rev. B thermostat vs. a Advance Auto Parts or Autozone thermostate with the jiggle valves? any reason to pay the extra and go genuine Ford Rev B?

thanks. Scott

FWIW, I just replaced one of the AZ thermostats today in my 89. It only lasted a few months and will be going back soon for a refund. It was allowing some coolant flow when it was cold, causing a very long wait for heat and engine warmup. I guess I'll see in the morning how effective the new one is.

AZ no longer carries the previously recommended RobertShaw stats. The only one they carry in the store are now in the AZ box.

The jiggle valve is nice to have for clearing air from the system, but it is my opinion that any of the others will work fine. I installed one from NAPA in my car today, no jiggle valve.

Well the real question is this.

I have a brand new Yamaha crate engine from 1990. I was wondering if I should replace the original thermostat with the updated version, or if it will be fine the way it is. The engine has never been ran.

Thanks Scott

the "jiggle valve" is a one way check valve. installed the wrong way, and coolant will weep past. only reason for it is to vent air when purging the system. in t-stats without the check valve, ive drilled a small hole in it and have no ill effects on vehicle/engine warming.
