Humm, 45 cars at a NESHOC event...well acually 46 if you also count my one and only SHO  Yup, the '89 made its maiden voyage to the land of cones and drew blood at the expense of a trio of vettes, a '68 a '92 and a Z06! However, I won't mention the Talon that was running 22lbs of boost, or the Lotus Elise for that matter.
The point being, I'm on the fense with the '89 as an autocrosser, I just get goose bumps when I hear the American V8 rumble through a set of Flowmasters.

Yeah, it's really too bad that more people don't take advantage of these events. Much cheaper than track days, yet just as, if not more, valuable than track days. You really want to know how well you can drive? This is the place. Maybe that's the problem, most don't want to realize that they're not the next Mario.

I've always said that mediocre drivers can turn fast laps on a road course. Only great drivers can turn fast laps on an autocross course. And the only way to get better is seat time.

I'd love to go out and prove some skills on an auto-x track. Just not in my SHO. ;)

I was talking to Charley after his little "pufff" at the end of his 3rd run and unless I grossly mis-heard him I'm sure he said he's running 22 lbs of boost in his Talon, maybe that's why he suspected the head gasket gave up.
Wheel spin is definatly a problem, I didn't feel that the Kumos were hooking up that great due to it being on the cool side. My times got a little better when I ran back to back runs. This was just a fishing expedition to feel the car out ( I've been running an ATX the past 7 years). It didn't overheat, my rod bearing job held up, I didn't spin it. The only thing different on the car is a home made RSTB and ATX front springs with stock struts. It did give me some insight for next year. Get the ASFB in, get the Eibachs and Tokicos on and fab some SFC's, lose more weight off the nose, install a smaller front sway bar or disconnect the one on there now, bigger brakes and some stickier rubber....and a rod shifter.
Oh yeah, hope and pray that the guy in the Z06 has another off day. :)

Ken it was great to see the 89 out there representin'. Looked good but I suspect everything you can do to shed weight and transfer it will help.

I'm hoping to get a clutch/quaife/rod bearing job done soon and will then try to make my 93 a rain event car next year. Of course this year we had all dry events!

And to those that haven't tried this yet, it's the most fun I've ever had while dressed. Just don't get frustrated at first, **** with my Cobra it still took me two seasons to reliably get past that pesky ****** GT and another to reliably stay ahead of Kevin's Neon LOL! I finally had to un-learn many years of performance car habits that just don't really work to drive genuinely fast. The NESHOC crowd is very good for novices with lots of help available, and enough seat time to make a difference (unlike SCCA for example).

And it's really not ******* the car, just the tires ;) ;) ;) .

Already looking forward to next season,
- Jeff

I got ya about the boost, I just thought in the scca rules that you could only run stock boost levels in ESP. Maybe he a boost controller and turned up the boost for other events such as the Sho and svt events. He was smoking fast at the last event. I broke my supercharger pulley bracket during my second run of the day which was fun it was weird running with no boost car felt so slow but it still did fine with about 80 wheel horse power with no boost
