Well, for those of you who didn't make it to KC today, you REALLLLLYY missed out. Tons of fun and 93 degree weather, and a hefty thunderstorm to boot!!!

Anyway, while sitting in the lounge at Sadlers we talked about having a huge tech meet of sorts out at my place (West of Lincoln about 20 minutes). As SHO owners, we've always got something to fix/rebuild/replace. I've got a ton of room, two stall garage, a Morton Building (dirt floor though), and a ton of driveway space. I've got a pretty good collection of tools, jacks, but more is always better. If we need parts on the spot, it takes about 20-30 minutes to get to any of the area parts stores, so if you can, come prepared.

This may be better as an overnighter thing (especially for those way-out-of-towners), I've got a pop-up camper with three beds, couches inside, and tons of room for tents for those out-dorsey types.

The other part to this equation is the Sandhills Open Road Challenge. This takes place near Arnold (North of North Platte), over the 7-9 of August. The One-Mile shootout, which is kinda the main spectator friendly part of it, is on the 8th, Friday, but it's at 8am. From Lincoln, this is about a 4 hour drive. Not only will the be a ton of other sweet cars out there, but this also brings in a few out of state SHOForum Members, and maybe the Colorado guys. Camping out in North Platte thursday night may be a better option, or getting a hotel room, seeing as the race starts at 8am, I don't much like waking up at 4am to drive 4 1/2 hours, although I have done it several time. It is an option to just do that.

Saturday and Sunday we can work as little or as much as we want on cars.

I'm thinking a grill out on Saturday night too, mmmm... Beef!!! I'll probably try and supply food and some beverages.

If anyone has any ideas or concerns, let me know, let us know what you think!!

Thins gives us all of June and July to plan for time off, save up some money, prepare, and give more time for things to break!

I know I need a front 60k, and hopefully nothing else until then!

:salute:

Yea I might be good (work wise) for the sandhills challenge but we would need to have a car that is not being worked on to drive out there and back.

I'd rather go to this than my 20yr reunion (the weekend before).... :p

I'll have to see what the vacation board is like at work first, though, for the Friday.

I may need to have someone see if they can help find an air, vacuum or exhaust leak before the O2 sensors that I've had since I bought the car. It results in a slight stumble at idle (NOT A BAD COIL) and has recently gotten worse, tossing a P0172 and P0175.

I took it to a recommended shop today to have a smoke test done and possible toss on a lift while running to check for an exhaust leak and the BS I encountered was monumental. I told them about the IMRC being removed and that it had NO bearing on the problem, that it had the same stumble before the modification. They wouldn't touch the car because it "has been modified, it's not stock - you need to take this to a race shop". He even said "it's got to be a mechanical problem" - DUH! WTF do you think those two tests I was asking for were? I flat out asked if they were going to run the !#$% tests I made the appointment for and was told he didn't have the time to go chasing down the problem, he had other cars to work on.

Okay.

a) I made the appointment 4 days in advance and was the FIRST (and ONLY at that time) appt of the day.
b) I dropped the car off the night before
c) given the above, there's no excuse not to leave the car until after lunch...

The !@#$%ers let the car sit, saw it "wasn't stock" and decided it was a good excuse not to work on it. The person I made the appointment with obviously wasn't the one working on the car.

Needless to say, the people who recommended Haver's Service Center in Omaha got a really nice earful after that little escapade.

I may try another trusted mechanic that I've gone to for many years and sit him down first and explain what's going on and see if he'll be willing to look at it. I didn't try there first because it takes so long (sometimes over 2 weeks) to get in over there and quite frankly, they're more expensive. But I learned my lesson.

I'm also not taking it back to Grand Island. I don't think he has a smoke machine in the first place, and second, I don't have a car to borrow for who knows how long after driving up there and dropping mine off.

Sorry for the rant.

I could just get extremely lucky, win Powerball tomorrow, buy me a BMW 335i and forget about the SHO.

What....I can dream, right? :)

I'm a pretty big fan of Auggie's down in Plattsmouth. the last couple times I've been down there they've had an SHO on the lot waiting to be worked on. there is also Tilson racing down in plattsmouth also but they lost the privilege of working on my vehicles after they didn't tighten down the transmission cooler lines on my old car after replacing the radiator. They tightened them up for free but once a shop makes a mistake I stop doing repeat business with them.

if you think it's an exhaust leak you may want to take it to a muffler shop to have them look at that aspect first.

I'm game for something with you guys. I'll more than likely make the SORC, but just as a spectator. I know I'll have some things to change around on my car when I get to NE, but I'm thinking that I'll take my sweet as time as I'll finally have a 3 car garage.

I'll literally be living right off 75 in Bellevue, so Plattsmouth is rediculously close (where in NE are you NEp8ntballer?). I'd be up for hosting something at my place sometime (I'll make a post later).

I'll be leaving Denver to head out that way in exactly two weeks! We're not sure if the house will even be done in time, so we'll see how much I can even settle in the first week.

Sandrew, I recommend Blum's Auto Repair in Lincoln. They are great guys and always have odd ball vehicles in their shop.

Granted, it's a drive (45 min one way) but they are second to none.

Thank you. I may have to take a day off and take it down there if I can't find somebody else to do a smoke test. I'll be calling a shop that I used to use before I bought the SHO (Auto Specialists, 83rd & Center) on Monday or Tuesday to see if they have a smoke machine. If they do I'll stop in and discuss the problem with them first before making an appointment.

This article explains what I wanted done very well:

I forgot, I've also got a mig Welder and a Oxy-Acetylene setup. Don't ask me how to run the Oxy-Acetylene, I haven't used that since high school, and I sucked at it.

:hail: Post #1,500 Paul! :hail:

Hopefully we'll have another Gen 2 at our meet.:naughty:

I think I want to put some different mufflers on my car, you talked me into having something louder, maybe just some cheap turbos. Brook said he had a couple for me, along with the white slicers.

You know what I'm thinking Paul, Nebraska doesn't have near enough FI SHO's.

I know, can you say student based project?

Muahahahaha

Turbo V8 SHO with a full roll cage, coil over suspension, cobra or wilwood brakes, and sticky tires.

Oh yeah, 5 speed swap.

:nut:

I suppose a V6 would suffice as well.

You'll need different tires and suspension if you expect to go anywhere fast on gravel ;)
