I just read a tag line on FOX news saying "FORD WILL RENAME THE FORD FIVE HUNDRED TO TAURUS DUE TO POOR SALES".

My friend told me about this earlier tonite; I thought he was kidding.

To call the 500 a taurus, well....that to me just seems even more insulting than the fact that they let the Taurus become such a dismal car in the first place.

The Taurus had it's day, why couldn't they just let it be? Now had they decided to rename the Fusion the Taurus, I could live with that. I guess I just like the Fusion more.

The Taurus in it's day was a revolutionary car, especially for a domestic automaker. The 500 is a bloated, boring, uninspiring waste of a platform that should be branded a 500 til the day Ford does something right when it comes to having a large sedan.

I agree totally, if any car should be re-named "Taurus", it should be the Fusion. The Fusion is about the same size and class as the Taurus, and with an available AWD and 6 speed tranny (auto) it sounds like a performance car. Can you imagine our SHO's with AWD and 6 speed?

When the taurus name takes over my guess is that they will probably make some revisions to help make it more of a true taurus instead of a simple emblem swap. Look at what they did with the lincoln zephyr. Its now the mkz and they did some minor revisions to it most notably the drivetrain and now its selling somewhat better. Id imagine they would do something similar in this case.
