Alright yall. I'm growing tired of the old school plug in scanners and decided to move into a BT scanner that I can run live readings with on longer trips (I travel frequently).

Right now I'm looking at both OBDLink MX and BLUE DRIVER.

Anyone have experience with these guys, or a recommendation for something else? They seem like the best options to me (for different reasons), and am having a difficult time deciding. I'm leaning towards OBDLink at the moment.

Any input is appreciated.

I was wondering the same thing! I kind of had my eye on the ODB Fusion on iOS, and their ODBLink MX Wi-Fi. ...I just didn't want to inundate the board with all my questions at one time. :)

I had a friend that purchased the OBD MX Bluetooth unit and had problems with that brand. I personally have used both Bluetooth and wifi generic adapters from eBay and have had great results. If I don't need the extra data from my HP Tuner, I use my generic wifi adapter with my iPhone. I purchased the full version of Dashcmd for the iPhone and it works well. Best of luck with your purchase and research.

Never had a problem with the MX bluetooth over several adapters over multiple years :) The Wifi one I kinda gave up on, people say issues have been resolved, but it is so expensive to get now anyway.

If you need a cheap BT adapter, Veepeak makes a good one for the price.

People are happy with BlueDriver as well, but you are tied into their software exclusively, and likely will not have the range of available PIDs like Torque Pro, Forscan Lite, etc offer.

If you are working on an iOS device, be sure the device clearly states iOS compatibility. Very few BT adapters are actually thus compatible.

Anyone have issues with the Carista? That's one of the ones ODB Fusion recommends...

Oddly enough, I received a OBDlink MX (Bluetooth) Saturday and downloaded their software and FORscan lite on my phone yesterday. It's mind blowing the number of modules and pids you can access but I think it's going to require a lot of playing with to utilize all that it can do and to get comfortable with it. If it has a pid for it, you can create a digital or analog style gauge to monitor things. I set it up to watch boost this morning just for ***** n grins and was surprised at how little time it spends in boost (my 13 is un tuned at this point), but I hit 11lbs getting on the highway under hard throttle. I think I'm going to pick up a tablet just to play with this thing (Hyundai and Kia have both gone to tablet based wifi scanners this year fwiw). I've been reading here and over at Ecoboost until my eye's bleed, the bad thing is that I can't find a good tutorial anywhere to make the learning curve a bit easier. From what I've read, OBDlink MX operates at the same max speed as Fords data lines, so the data you see should be as close to live as it gets.

I use bluedriver daily at my shop, it’s great for getting quick info and visualizing data. For 100 bucks it’s hard to beat. I love it

I typically see a 30ms return time for data from the MX bluetooth, at least 2x faster than any other bluetooth device (cheapo/generic variety) that I have tested. If BlueDriver can create logs, we can compare :) Or a Kiwi device maybe.

I was already leaning towards the MX and I think yall sealed the deal. Amazon has a great price on it right now (79.99) and I think Ill pull the trigger.

Any recommended apps (android)?
I'm eyeballing the MX native app, Forscan, Torque, and Dash Command.
All for different reasons, but they all look good for one reason or another. I'm sure Ill end up with Forscan, but I want one with attractive dashboard options as well for drive monitoring. May play around with all of the free versions before pulling the trigger on any particular pro version.

The native app you get with the MX is pretty decent, has customizable interface, tho I don't think it is nearly as extensive as Torque Pro in that regard. The only drawback I see to Forscan Lite is the lack of customizability, with regards to gauge layout, as well as custom PIDs.

Torque Pro is what most people use with the MX, as quite a few custom PIDs have been developed for it.

This. I have the OBDLink MX wifi for this reason and haven't had an issue although I don't use it all the time.

I have used several, I have a 40 buck name brand now no different in speed then my 15 buck ones. I have tried several apps....I decided on Torque pro and try to get used to just one app. Then it easier to use on other vehicles too....

I have a BlueDriver and it works fine. No issues with connectivity. I use it everyday to monitor engine temp and IAT.

My OBDLink MX has a faster refresh rate than my generic ($15) OBDII BT scanner, so I use it more often. I have used it on 20 different behicles with no issues. I use Torque Pro as the app software. It even works on my Lotus.
