Okay I am debating weather I should stick with my synthetic oil or go back to regular oil? I know the saying (once synthetic always synthetic). Personally I never belived in synthetics. So what would everyone suggest? Thanks.

You can switch back to conventional oil if you want, but why would you???

You can switch back, but I don't see why you wouldn't believe in synthetics...

Overall synthetice are better formulated to help increase engine life.

I changed from Castrol Syntec to a Syntec Blend. I find no reason to run a full synthetic in this car. The blend was a compromise with myself.

I changed from Mobil 1 (since car was new) to conventional oil at the last 60K and rod bearing change.. I was unhappy with tendency for seal leakage, which seemed excessive compared to other cars, and oil consumption. Since the change, oil consumption has improved. The rod bearings were worn typical of what is expected at 180K. I have seen no evidence that synthetic oil improves engine life. I do continue to use Mobil 1 in my Toyota Sequoia, which we use for towing.

Bob, your experience to the contrary notwithstanding, synthetics have been documented in scientific testing to have the following advantages:

1. Easier cranking at low ambient startup temps.
2. Less engine wear due to lower viscosity at startup.
3. Longer oil change intervals due to more stable chemistry.
4. Less engine wear at high temp / high load applications due to less viscosity reduction / less oil breakdown.

The main reason I run synthetics is due to longer oci - I run 12k or one year and have good used oil analyses to show that I'm not being stupid. That way I can do my own oil changes to ensure there is new oil in before the engine gets started up again, and I don't have to do it very often.

I have ran mobil 1 in my 92 for 2 years , it seamed to leak in places that the other cars didn't . I have several . I went back to regular oil 10 /30 castrol and it stopped using as much oil. I have read in the Sho registry that the synthetics can cause problems with cam wear. I have 4 SHOs and I am not convinced that synthetics are the way to go. Just change the oil when it is dirty or at regular intervals.

My 06 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 L has a real time mpg monitor, and when I switched to full synthetic from regular Castrol, my mpg improved by 1.5 that's an extra 25 miles on a tankful; about $5 per tank saved, plus I run it for 6000 miles instead of 3000 since it does not break down as easily as Dino.
