sway bar endlinks

one of the ball joints in the driver's side front endlink is bad. can i replace just the bad link, or should both sides be replaced at the same time?

No need to replace the other one if it hasn't failed.

They are cheap however. I had to remove them and the bolt was frozen on one. Ended up pulling out the cutting torch to remove it. Think I paid $25 for both of them at Autozone.
