How effective is this upgrade, can you really tell a difference with a SUV wireharness upgrade+some new bulbs? How easy are they to install, is it just plug n' play?

Very effective if you are loosing voltage on your stock wiring. It is plug and play but there will probably be alot of extra wire.

Works great on my 92 with the silverstars. lot better than stock bulbs with lower voltage.

I got about 1.3 volt more with the harness (12.9 up to about 14.2)

You'd be surprised that even with a set of new regular 9007's and this wiring upgrade the difference you'll see. Stuff like harness and plugs is usually given to the lowest bidder = cheapest material. Look at how many electrical related things are improved by a "wiring" upgrade on our cars. **** even adding upgrading grounds helps them! Most wiring is at the fine line of a meltdown when it comes to the lighting. The charging systems also. Don't be sold on hype for $50 a set bulbs on the 'net. The harness is a great idea, even for stock lights. If you can read a wiring diagram and do wiring you can make it youself.

You were originally losing only 1.3 volts? In my experience most SHOs are losing close to 2 volts through the crappy Ford wiring. About 0.5 volt of that is due to the lamp out monitoring system. Did your car have the lamp out monitoring system?

The upgrade is very effective on SHOs. The lamp out warning system is responsible for about a 0.5 volt drop. Most SHOs I have worked with lose about 2 volts through the factory wiring system. The light output output of a halogen bulb increases exponentially as voltage increases. Some of the increase in bulb brightness is lost due to the crappy DOT headlight beam pattern but for sure you'll notice a difference with a good harness. I build my own and use 10 gauge wire and my voltage drop is immeasurable even with my good Fluke multimeter. Take the power for the lights directly from the alternator output and ground the lights to the alternator case. This will give you the least voltage drop.

I have the harness on my car and made the mistake of using over wattage bulbs. I've gone through one plug and am going through the other one now. My dads van is doing the same only his is melting both plugs. I will get another connector and use the silver stars again.

Much brighter than using the stock wiring though

Did the overwattage bulbs melt the aftermarket harness? If so, what was the wattage of the bulbs?

I think so. The bulbs are like 100/80 watt bulbs. Not the harness itself, but the harnessesseess(?) healight socket
