This thread might just give away that I am completely dense but everyone here had to have figured it out by now anyways. Anyways I need to replace my entire suspension and I don't know what to buy. I have asked this a few times (dense) and the answers always go over my head so I'm gonna try and ask it better.

What I need from the most informative forum on earth is what all goes into a replacement and part numbers. So from bushings to springs to that thing in the middle that I always forget the name of. If you were going to do a new set up all around on a 90 what would you do...AND! if you put in parts numbers and where best to get things you will most certainly be my favorite forum for all eternity.

Small back story, just graduated college and I need to find a job and finding a job is not easy without a car. So I'm getting the old girl out of the garage and it will be my main transport.

Thanks all in advance.

First question.... What would you like out of your suspension? IE.. Do you want it to handle well, or do you just want it to get from A to B?

If you want just a stock setup on the quick and cheap, go with quickstruts. Rebates from monroe are still good until May 31st IIRC. 80 bucks for sensatracs, 125 for quickstruts.

Seeing you are from Chitown and this is your everyday car, I would stick with a stock suspension, and do all the required maintenance on the Yamaha. Stifening it up will be no fun through the potholes plus all the squeaks and clunks it iwll generate before long. These cars are expensive to modify if you just graduated and are looking for work.

I am on the super south side of Chicago though so I do see plenty of time in the suburbs, but yeah I'm not planning on going nuts here.

What do those prices include, is this a 2 each kinda thing or is that $80 and 125 each sort of deal.

The engine has most of the maintenance done, basically the only thing left is the water pump. This is an A to B type suspension and by the way the car handles now it will feel like I have a sport suspension by comparison.

If you buy 4 Sensatracs, you will can get a mail in rebate for 80 bucks. Rockauto recently had them wholesale closeout for around 30 bucks each. So 120 for the struts, minus the 80 rebate, you pay 40 bucks.

If you buy 4 Quickstruts, you will get a 125 mail in rebate. The quickstruts come all preassembled and is an in-out job. The sensatracs require mounts, springs, etc.

The parts list I have come up with so far is

2 Sensatrac part number 71780
2 Sensatrac part number 71616
2 Monroe Strut mounts rear
2 Monroe Strut mounts front
2 Moog Cargo coils front
2 Moog Cargo Coils rear

Is there anything else I will need in any way. I'm pretty sure I can rent spring compressors from the local auto parts store.

Any insight would be awesome.

2 KYB Coil Spring Seat SM5415
2 KYB Coil Spring Seat SM5414
2 Monroe Strut Bellow 63619
2 Monroe Strut Bellow 63621
2 Monroe Strut Mount (bearing plate) 903967
2 Monroe Strut Mount 901926
2 Monroe Strut Mount 901954

Depending on how worn everything is, there is a lot you can do while you have the struts out. I replaced axles, tie rods (inner and outer) LCAs, Sway Bar Links, etc. The above list, however, gets you everything to assemble the struts for installation.

I ordered everything and it got here just fine, but I have one final question: Is there somewhere with a full "how to" on replacing everything. I'm worried about just tearing into my car without knowing what the **** I'm doing and I'm having trouble getting friends in to help me.

I bet I could dig out the service manual, or you could look at one side while you rebuild the other. Or... pull both Mcpherson assemblies and then build up the replacement to look like the one you pulled.

Shoulda just bought the Quickstruts and been done with it quick(strut) -n- easy.

By now I bet you've already figured this out and are back on the road, yes?

I'm up in Streamwood (near Schaumburg) and around most every evening after work if you want to come by.
