Suspension primer?

My suspension has started to grunt, groan, and generally complain. I am a suspension neophyte, and I was wondering if anyone had any easy way to explain what everything is. Pictures would rock, if anyone had some...

I just want to know what I am looking at... I have managed to narrow it down to "That thingy that goes up-and-down" and "The side-to-sidey one" but I might need to learn a bit more...

Go to some performance suspension companies pages such as:
www.tokicogasshocks.com
www.koni.com
www.eibach.com
www.intraxsuspension.com
and then go to their info section. That should be a start at least.

I appreciate the links... helped me out.

I figured out that I have Koni's (it wasn't too difficult with the Sticker on the dash, and the adjustment tool...) Is there anyway I can tell what springs I have?
