Whats up guys.
I haven't dug into the subject much yet, but Im going to have to repair my sunroof yet. Wanted to get a feel and see if anyone can tell me what Im up against.

When I was using the sunroof one day, I heard something snap inside leaving it permanently in the tilt position. When I use the switch either way, I can hear the motor running but it doesn't move an inch.

Whats it gonna take to fix thing thing? Not looking forward to it... :munch:

I may be mistaken but I think that in the Gen I's you can insert a handle and override the motor and get things closed.

There are threads on here that help with removing the glass and getting a good look at what is wrong. Often it is the switch itself but if you can hear the motor, your switch is OK.

Here is something on the Gen I
Stuck open
The only way to manually close the factory moonroof is to completely dismantle the switch console and motor assembly. On '89 to '91 SHOs, you need to push down on the map light and sort of pry the map lights out one at a time. There are two screws under there. Take them out. Then pull the cover rearward and slightly down. The mechanism is then activated by a window crank arm which you will have to buy or locate.

I don't think the Gen I advice will do you any good if it is the Gen IV you are having problems with, but getting the roof console off is the start of the fix, and there is always a special routine to get it off without breaking the tabs.

Not sure if this will help, but you can look up the free Chilton's online manual here:

http://hmcpl.org/databases/auto-repair-reference-center

Click on the INFOTRAC url near the bottom of the page, then click on PROCEED when the next page comes up. Select your vehicle, then REPAIR. Look under Body / Exterior / Roof Opening Panel for relevant information.

I don't not believe there is any how to's on this issue yet. I know it will require removing the head liner and want to remove the headliner from the car you have to remove the wind shield. Your best bet is to fully recline the front seats and lay the head liner on top of them. And the remove the sun roof as a complete assembly. Good luck
