Well, after thinking about if for a couple of years, I have put my '81 Scirocco back on the road to use as a nice day summer car. Yesterday was its first time out in 3-4 years. I was certainly fun, but putting 60km or so in on a '70s technology sports coupe is a fine reminder of how much more sophisticated and comfortable our Gen III SHOs are. :)

The were ahead of their time in the '70s. Hard to imagine having fun with 78 HP. LOL

Wow. Three. Mine is green, like the one on the bottom photo. It came with only 68hp, actually, but it also only weights 1900 pounds. Some time ago, perhaps the early '90s, I replaced my original motor with the 100 hp bolt for bolt fit from the Carat. No weight change, but over 40% more go power. She is not slow. :)

I also went to perfomance struts and shocks and 14 inch wheels with Potenza's for summer back roads. It is still a very nice machine, but crude in comparison to our Gen III SHOs. Does get you back into the 'roll down the windows and go fast' concept of air conditioning, though. wink
