so my 93 mtx would not give out any hot air.. its just ice cold air.. and the engine temperature went up almost above 'normal' real quick while driving.. as soon as i let it idle, the temperature dropped down almost immediately.. It is impossible for it to heat up and cool down so quick so i figure its an electrical problem..

later on i turned the engine off and started it again after a few minutes and everything was fine..

this has happened twice now..

bdw when i started for the second time, i set my temp to 75 instead of 90.. didnt know whether that matters..

any feedback helpful... its getting very cold very quick so please reply asap

Sounds more like a lot of air in the cooling system. If the system has air in it then the temp sender cannot read the coolant temp and will read cold. Also if the system is low on coolant there is not enough to go through the heater core. The rapid climb in temperature will be seen when some the hot coolant does get to the sender.

The coolant going past the sender and through the heater core are both before the t-stat so this would not be the cause.

How old is the radiator cap? Does the radiator leak at all?

Your coolant is low and the waterpump is having difficulty drawing water into the system. As a result, the temp sensor is reading the temperature of steam, not coolant. As the temp and pressure rise, the waterpump suddenly IS able to move some water and your temp sensor reacts quickly.

Add some coolant, I think you will be fine.

This happened to me on my Blazer. Essentially the system didn't have enough coolant, because the water pump puked it all out.

Ironically...Yesterday on my way to the hospital to see my son, I got off the Hwy and noticed my gauge was in the red zone......I felt my upper hose was hot as Heck...lower hose barely warm.....my cooling fans were both on too.. I have no heat now either...I am thinking my t-stat is stuck closed.....Does this sound like a possibility? I have NEVER had any cooling problems with this car, even after my 60K front I did last year....any opinions would be appreciated.

I managed to get her home by driving it till it got to red....pulled over shut her down till in mid zone...repeated till I got home...engine still sounded good, and did not sound like i damaged it at all....:)

an air pocket can cause all sorts of problems...way back in 88n 89 when i worked at the ford dealerr the new car training said it was impairative to bleed/burp the coooling systems on the new SHO but as it was later it kind of fell by the waste side.

the original procedure was to remove the highest cooling hose you have (probaly the throttle body hose and then fill the rad and over flow. after you have seen coolant come out of the tb hose replace it and start the engine allow it to run for 2 min at 2500 rpm then go wot for just the amount of time it takes to push the pedle to the floor and realse... repat three times and its good.

Fill up coolant, run with the radiator open at idle for a few minutes. Make sure that when you squeeze the top hose coolant burbles out of the radiator.

Also, the top radiator hose is the return from the engine. If it is not getting hot, then either the thermostat isn't working or you are way too low on coolant.
