Strut Mounts

I am in need of strut mounts I guess. I need the bearing and the mount. I see on Rockauto the Monroe Part # 901926 It is called the Strut-Mate Bearing Plate, 901902 bearing available. Is that the mount and bearing? I want to get these as cheep as possible because I really only need the bearing but might as well replace the mount too. Is rockauto the best place to get these?

The Moog K8630 front strut mount and bearing kit ($43.99 from O'Reilly). This kit contains a lifetime warrantied strut mount (with harder rubber than the Motorcraft part I replaced), strut bearing and three nuts with cast-in washers. The bearing must be installed on the existing spring pad ****** by bending the tabs securing the old bearing outward to remove, and inward to secure, the new bearing.

Install the ford spacer plates while performing this procedure or you might well get a groaning noise in some turns. I used the moog part that Scott refered you to in the above reply. I wish I had installed the spacer plates, but now I dont know when I will get around to it. The groan may or may not do any damage, but it just sounds horrible...

I noticed that the Moog kit contained spacers that fit around the collar of the strut mount and spaced the bearing and upper spring pad approximately 1/4" down and farther away from contact with the upper corners of the strut tower. My car also has the Ford spacer plates. With the elongation of the adjustment slots to allow the camber to remain within spec with the Eibach springs, that still results in close spacing between the spring pad and the strut tower.

When you say a groaning noise what exactly do you mean because after i cut my stock springs I sounds as if the spring is popping or something and when I install my Moog's tomorrow I dont' want to cut them if they are going to do the same thing. Is the space the metal plate on the top of the strut between the bearing plate and the strut tower because with my new monroes it came with a new one of those.

You described the Ford "spacer plate" that is designed to move the strut mount and moving spring pad down and farther from the rounded upper edges of the strut tower.

yeah, its the friction between the mount and the strut tower that makes the groaning noise, I guess by moving the mount down it eliminates the contact point. I dont think you will get any noises if you do the installation correctly and you have the spacer plate installed.
