I've looked all over and wanted to verify I wasn't repeating a discussion. Feel free to direct me to the link if I've overlooked.

My 2012 Taurus SHO has 5 stone chips in the windshield at 13k miles. Are we just prone to these things because of the cab-forward design?

Does anybody know if insurancde companies will fix 5-6 stone chips or will they just replace the windshield?

Thanks for listening,

I just had a stone chip fixed by progressive yesterday. You better hope they fix the chips. I had to have a windshield replaced on my mustang because of a hairline crack, and you have to pay a 500 deductible, so I didnt file a claim.

I swear this car attracts every rock and flying debris off trucks and everything else on the road!

I haven't noticed it on the SHO yet, but my Corvette really attracts rocks. This spring I'll likely get it replaced for the third time. I have 0 deduct glass coverage, so thank goodness it won't cost me a cent.

Yep

I find that to be true with my SHO as well, a lot of road rash as well as stone chips in windshield. I am thinking of putting on a Clear Bra - anyone have any experience with that ?

Unfortunately my Insurance Company does not pay for chip repair but will replace windshield but yes I will have to pay the deductible.

The SHO has been the worse car I have ever had for windshield damage. The whole thing is sandblasted and full of chips. I drive alot and have had dozens of cars and never seen one like this. I believe there is something different in the glass. Very soft or very brittle. Not sure which but this is not the same glass as we are used to seeing.

i'm up to 72K on my 2010 and my 1999 Lexus with 140K on it has a better looking windshield! Of course the worst chips are on the driver's side right where I'm looking. I think the glass has to be softer and more prone to chipping. I have driven a bunch of cars a lot of miles and have never seen anything close to the pitting and chips we get.

When I got mine with 19K miles, I thought the previous owner must have followed trucks around. Lots of tiny chips in the hood and plenty of little nicks in the windshield.

The glass is supposedly "Sound Screen" and maybe that is a factor, but I would wager it is also more expensive to replace.

It's sad the old $200 windshields don't ever get cracked or chipped. I'd have to clean it real well, but I don't think I have any.. and that windshield has at least 200k on it. Many down dusty county roads.

I smell a new TSB coming. Paying $500 for a windshield on a new car is crazy. This is something I'd figure they would address.

Has anyone had any luck with insurance covering the repair? My 2010 has a large chip right in the center of the passengers view.

I've had 3 chips repaired so far in my 2010. Insurance covered all 3 repairs. I prefer not to change the windshield if possible. SO far only one of these chips is noticeable from the driver's seat and I can live with it. I'm not sure what's happened over the last few years but I had 5 windshields replaced on my 2001 Crown Vic and then 3 more replaced on my 2005 Infiniti G35X. I live in NJ so maybe that's part of it but I swear that I do not follow other vehicles too closely. I simply think it's bad luck :( .
