Stock CD Player - Burned CD's

Any ideas on how to get burned CDs to play in the stock CD player?

Those are really old late 80's cd tech. I bet if it won't read what you put in then that's a wrap. There are old posts about how to wire in an aux jack to play digital music from mp3 players and phones and such. I usually rip out the old stuff since none of my cars are collectible quality. You are lucky if the stock cd player still works. Alot of us have had cd's get stuck in there

I think the burned CDs would have to be formatted as audio CDs to work, no other requirement. So no mp3's or anything more "modern".

I burned it as an audio cd on a cd-r. Maybe it needs to be a cd+r? Anyone have experience getting it to work?

- or + probably won't make much of a difference. But the disc does have to be closed, i.e., no further writing is possible. Which I assume would have been done during the audio cd creation process, but worth a check. There may still be blank audio cds hanging around, if you have to go that route, but how many would you have to redo?

There are also piggyback discreet systems you can buy/put together like they do for classic cars or restomods to get modern stuff in older cars. Look for the how to to get digital jack connected to stock head unit and hide the 3.5 jack where you can't really notice it.

If it's not in really great shape I wouldn't be so worried about stock.. but to each their own. Back in the 90's I used to stack multiple 10 disc cd changers in the trunk so I had a ton of music available. I would hate to go without a digital library of music or even podcasts for longer commutes if I had a choice.

In my Dads Gen2 the only burn CDs that would work consistently was the Memorex Black CD-Rs...

Edit: didn't realize the price on those is $119... Used to be $30 for a 50pack.... Any black CD-R should work. It has to do with the lasers ability to read the data off the disc... Black is really good for older CD players...

The link above is listed as black cds but the data side is now silver not black like they used to be. These are inferior to the old expensive style they used to make. Manufacturer is no longer producing black data side recordable cd's. With the decline in demand for cds I wonder if the higher end black recorded surface ones are still being manufactured.
Another thought is that stacks of blank cds have a certain failure rate and you can get a handful of duds in any package that won't work at all.

Hey everyone. I found an old CD-R that is the 650MB 74 minute variety and it works in the SHO stock CD player. I am pretty happy about this and will be using those to burn a killer mixed CD for my ride of all the awesome songs I listened to in 1992.
