Timing belt PROPERLY timed to the three marks? Mine wasn't, it was the major cause of power loss for me..cough 125HP cough.

Cough I had/have an SS Ypipe for sale. Although it's still going through the line of takers. If all fails, I'll still have it and in stock wink

well... the cats apparently are NOT my problem. What else could it be? Would an 80mm maf upgrade help (noticeably)? Or would that be a waste of $?

Now you're getting way out there. If it's not running up to par a larger MAF isn't the cure. There is either a problem with your perception (butt dyno) or problems with air, fuel, spark or timing. I would check the timing belt to be sure the belt is not off by a tooth or two. Then check for vacuum leaks. This can be frustrating but a logical methodical approach will get you there faster than scattershot approaches.
